We rescued him from the meat market today. Saw him trapped behind the bars as he was being purchased. I was so convinced he was someone’s pet - all that sadness that stood there. . Suki told the person buying him that he was stolen, our family dog that was taken. In the end she convinced them to release him. We brought him back to the shelter with an Asian Palm Civet, and a goat we rescued. . He is such a smart and amazing dog, I am certain he belonged to someone. Imagine what it must be like to be taken. To sit there awaiting death, and to know no matter what you do, you will never see the ones you love again. . Credit to @animalhopeandwellness : We began the liberation - and starting pulling dogs out of the cages. Our initial count was wrong, and we believe there is closer to a hundred. . They are not only Jindos and what is considered meat dogs, but Italian greyhounds, Boston terriers, and a French bulldog. At the vet later today they will be scanned to see if they are microchipped. Receive care, and each sent to the organizations and boarding facilities that pledged support, while we ready them for travel to the states. . Usually when we rescue in Korea we have a plan and a place to take the dogs. But this closure was sudden, and without the help of others, this could not have been pulled off. . All those voices that never made it. All those prayers. . It’s strange how when you are scared, that the attachment to hope becomes so bare. And you pray not just for yourself, but for those that could never be saved. The sun has yet to break, and we are on the way to the first slaughterhouse. . The dogs on the truck from yesterday - local activists responded to our post, and have pledged to help house them while they wait to go to the states. They killed one at the slaughterhouse before we left, a victim to the desperation - so there are forty one. .
