Sometimes in life you meet someone by chance. A friend God New you needed in your life. The missing piece to your disheveled puzzle. The person who was just a short time ago was a stranger and not even a face you knew. But now is a face you can’t live without. From the morning messages, to caring for each others kids, late night gossips, and even tears you didn’t know you needed to cry. They were put into your life for a reason. 2016-2017 I lost a lot in my life. And so much of who I am went with those losses. I thought I was coping well and had everyone I needed in my life. Then I met Calah. Someone I didn’t know I needed. Someone in such a short time went from a stranger to my sister. In life you don’t get a lot of kindred spirits and friendships that last forever. But sometimes you get those that right from the start you know you can’t live without. From two different worlds but also so similar. God graced my life with her exactly when I needed someone. Went from online talking to everyday seeing eachother. Our kids are best friends, and even in our pjs and junk food moments it’s just easy. Some friendships you have to really work at. This is just like breathing. As she faces another deployment and I face a bunch of TDYs we know we are only a few houses and a phone call away. I am entirely blessed to have her as my friend. God knew I needed an angel! Preference of written word over spoken

Every day, most people under the age of 35 at some point set aside some time type away about their feelings, whether it be on a phone, PC or laptop.

We have become quite outstanding at expressing ourselves in 150 (or is it 120? I have no idea, not being a Twitter-er – yes ok I have an account, that isn’t used) characters or less.

So what happens when you have to have a face-to-face conversation with someone about your feelings and they actually have to look at your face and potentially witness the horror that is your very ugly crying face? Of course we don’t even want our mothers to witness that horror, so we hide behind our devices and have those unbearably hard, emotion filled conversations via the written word.

I can’t decide if this is good or bad.

Let’s look at the Pro/Con list:

Pros

-       Nobody gets to see your ugly crying face

-       You can say whatever you want without fear of having the object of your discourse ripping shreds into you and blowing your arguments to smithereens by being better than you at speaking in general.

-       You have written down EXACTLY what was said by both parties so you can look back over your discussion and analyse it at length, either on your witheringly, tired own, or with girlfriends. I think it should also be noted that this would also be appropriately on the Cons list.

Cons

-       Our face-to-face interactions are important in our ability to interact on a social level. So even if the confrontation will end badly, I think experiencing the bad with the good, is imperative to our growth.

-       Relying on written communication could (and is) be viewed as cowardly.

-       The spiralling circle our thoughts go in whilst waiting for a response is not to be desired, or wished upon your worst worst enemy.

There we go, three points for and against. One point being for both lists.

I don’t think I have even managed to convince myself which is better.

But considering, most of my interactions with people, even when they are sitting 10 metres away from me, even when I live with them, are via text or email or instant messenger, I think I’m going to have to just get used to it.
