keep an eye on the road. + from v, @v0rtechs
there were a couple of ways this could have gone, but the most likely route regina could expect was this: a warehouse lot crawling with maelstrom fanatics had their objective smack in the middle of it, and despite their discretion, it was like reaching for a busted liver with their luck overdone. stealing the recording had proved easy enough, but the shoot-out that followed involved a getaway van, with him behind wheel and val’s pistol a perfect backdrop song.
a bullet flung itself against their wheel, a maelstrom gonk on two wheels was closing in on their ass. he pushed his own head back in time to avoid the biker’s attempt to elbow him through the window. the van they’d stolen wavered over the road like drunkard, before val’s hand was clutching the idiot’s wrist, tugging him forward, and flatlining him clean with a bullet to the head. as the body toppled away, the van stabilised and dove head-first through a tunnel, offering them only momentary respite. he turned his head back in time to catch their eye. despite the close call, his mouth was no more its characteristic frown, but a wicked smile, pulse buzzing.
❛ fuck off, i look like a fucking rookie to you? let’s juggle. ❜ the scruffy roar of two bikes approached behind them, cussing wildly, and he watched val in the rear-view with a scoff of a laugh. ❛ lure them in, we’ll crush them against the wall— didn’t regina tell us to keep it tidy? whatever, i’ll tell her it’s your fault. ❜
