I got tagged by the lovely @lthestoryteller for the "Writer VS Character" game!!
Keep in mind that I'll be saying the names of a few characters who haven't yet been introduced, & no, I won't be explaining them yet lol
Tell us a few bits and bobs about your relationships with your NPCs!
Favorite character to write ; I'm a good mother. I love all my children equally… just kidding, it's Taint. He's very erratic and unapologetic of his actions – he just does shit for the love of the game, and that can be really refreshing to write after spending the majority of the time on deconstructing the concept of morality and fragility of ‘justice.’ None of the companions are good people, but Sebastion and Faust usually have their own justifications for their actions – the closest you'll get from Taint is that his god of carnage demanded it.
Least favorite to write ; No one jumps out at me. If I had to be picky, I guess I'd say Faust's dialogue can feel a little redundant when writing due to how much she cusses.
Most frustrating to write ; I can't really answer this due to spoilers, but there is one ‘character’ that can be extremely tricky to write properly. There's a very specific energy and intention that I'm trying to capture, and it can be difficult to describe through words. It's been getting easier, though.
Character who surprised you the most (whatever reason) ; Sebastion went through quite a few changes before his final rendition; he used to be a lot more outwardly aggressive and morally-driven, but I shaved him down over time and am much more happy with his current version. I've always had the basic idea of him down – along with the role he played in the story – but I needed more time to fully understand him before I could write him. He's much more like an ‘unmovable object’ now, and his blunt nature is very fun to write.
Character you hope people will like ; Faust! I hope people will be interested in her intricacies, especially due to her role and proximity to the host. She can be a major pain in the ass – and I understand that most people will dislike her upon your first meeting due to her personality and attitude – but I genuinely hope people will be willing to recognize the nuance in her character and why she does the things she does.
Character you worry people might hate ; I actually hope all the characters are at least a little bit hated. None of them are supposed to be likeable – quite the opposite. They're all extremely flawed to varying levels of degree, with said flaws often times being major pieces of their role along with being the driving force to their survival and continued existence. But there is one character that I'm worried about people misunderstanding; Död. They're introduced in chapter one and are purposefully misleading in both appearance and words, and I worry that people may take them at face value too quickly.
Any characters that are buzzing about at the end of your mind, but have no place in the story (yet) ; Charlec. I hate him. I hate him so much. He will have a place in this story specifically so you all can understand why I hate him as much as I do. I will crush him into a fine paste and feed his remains to the pigs.
Any characters you wonder might be better suited in a different story ; Charlec, again. He's actually part of a novel I've already finished – one that I've mentioned wanting to adapt to an IF in the past, and am carefully beginning to draft out due to already having a base for it – and he plays a much bigger role there than he does here. You'll be meeting a younger version of him in SANGUISUGA.
Character you want to be friends with ; I can't answer this one. I'm in love with her as a specimen and concept but I can't say anything related to her without it being a spoiler. Crazy bitch.
Character you'd avoid IRL ; All of them. If I had to pick specifically one from SANGUISUGA, it would most likely either be your sire or Mallory – honestly, just anyone from the coven.
