Besides adapting to the weather, Vander also had to get used to relying on motor vehicles for transportation in Orre.

Being from Hoenn everything was either walking distance or had access to public transportation in the region. But because Orre is a desert with nothing within walking distance nor had access to public transportation, Vander had to rely on using a motor scooter to get to places, especially work.

Vander was lucky that he already had a license in Hoenn, as some thing were still a great distance from his home. Hence registering for an Orre license and his scooter was non-issue to him.

After becoming an Area Leader a few years later, Vander and the others were introduced to Renson, the 3rd Area Leader. At first she was friendly with the others, but soon began to develop a one sided crush with Vander.

Because her area is high enough to watch him from afar, she can't get over how good looking he is. She swoons whenever he does take off his jacket after a training session.

It's gotten to the point where Renson is considering marrying Vander, but to prove she's marriage material, she has to work extra hard. Once in a while she will practice cooking, sewing and other things that she thinks make a perfect wife. When she does practice her cooking, Renson will give it to Vander for his lunch with varying results (usually bad).

Of course Vander is completely unaware of her advances on him and just thinks Renson is just being nice and friendly. He sees her as a colleague first, then a kind of a friend second. Willie and Loko are fully aware of her attempts to hit on Vander, Willie especially will stand in the way if the 3rd Area Leader does make attempts.

I've been trying to think of Vander's non-Mt. Battle team for a while now. I think I've (kinda) settled on something like this:

He has a baby Whismur as well, but it's more like his pet or his non-fighting Pokemon.

To add on to Vander headcanons:

Since he and Willie came from Hoenn, which is based on Kyushu; Vander is very used to rainy weather and atmosphere. It rains a lot in Hoenn, and the Area Leader always carries an umbrella where ever he went. Even when he was little, he would be the one to have it on hand as he and his brother walked home together.

When he was able to travel, he would still carry one in his bag in case of a rainy day. When he finally settled in Orre for work, it took him some time to break the habit of not carrying one with him. The times he did bring one, his co-workers would question why he has it, if it rarely rains in Orre. Vander's only answer was it was a force of habit.
