Silane had borrowed a book from Marius a few days ago, and she’d ended up finishing it quicker than she’d expected to. While there was nothing else she wanted to do, she figured she should go and return it to him. Knowing he was most likely to be in one of two places, Silane decided to try his room first. Luckily, he was there rather than in the library, and she was let in soon after she’d knocked. “I finished the book... Are there any others like this?"

It’d been a relatively quiet day for Marius, as he’d done nothing but sit in his room and practice reading Italian. He hadn’t expected any company, but once he opened the door, he wasn’t surprised to see Silane. “You finished it already? Did you enjoy it?”

Since the book was one of Marius’ favorites, he had many that were similar, so he began to search his room for one like it. As soon as he found one, he stood and handed it to Silane. “I think you’ll like this one. You can borrow it for as long as you like.”

Recently, Silane had been dedicating some time to teaching herself about history, as she wanted to try and broaden her knowledge. Usually, the library had all the books that she needed, but on this particular occasion, the book she was looking for wasn’t there. Assuming that it’d been taken by someone else, Silane could only think of one person who could’ve done so. Silane headed back towards her room, but stopped outside of Lindou’s door instead of her own and knocked. “It’s me. Can I come in?”

Lindou had been sitting at her desk folding origami flowers when Silane knocked at her door. “You can come in,” Lindou called out, not wanting to leave her spot and abandon her current project, a rose. Once she finished the flower she’d been working on, she turned in her chair and greeted the other girl. “Is everything okay?” Lindou asked, not being able to tell if there was anything wrong.

After spending a lot of time resting, Silane had finally been able to do things as normal, although still with a little difficulty. Not wanting to waste the last of summer, she decided she would take a walk, but find someone to go with first. Marius would be the easiest to find, so Silane headed to the library. As expected, he was there, but she opted for greeting him in a different way. Without making a sound, she moved closer until she was able to lean in to speak to him. “...Hi."

Whenever Marius read, he found it was easy for him to lose track of everything going on around him. On this particular day, he was engaged in studying Italian, so he failed to notice Silane approaching him. When she spoke, he inhaled sharply and turned his head towards the sound of her voice. Realizing it was only her, he set the book down. “Silane… I didn’t hear you coming. How are you?” He asked, hoping that her arm was better since she was now up and about.

Silane had grown bored of all the places where she would usually spend her time, so she decided she would go to one of Clan’s unused rooms for a little while. With her sketchbook under one arm, she headed for one of the sitting rooms that was just down the hallway from her own room. She presumed it would be empty, but when she entered it was obvious that it was already occupied by someone else: Marius. “Oh. I didn’t think anyone else was here-- sorry, I'll leave."

On this particularly cold evening, Marius decided to take his book into one of the sitting rooms where he could make a fire in the fireplace. Only the sound of the fire crackling could be heard until someone else entered the room. Turning around in his armchair, he saw it was none other than Silane with her sketchbook tucked under her arm. “Oh– you don’t have to go. You’re welcome to stay here, if you’d like,” He said, gesturing to the other armchair.

It was one of those days where Silane didn’t feel quite like her normal self, and it was usually solved by two things: keeping to herself, or being in the company of one person in particular. This time, she went with the latter. So, when she was sure that Lindou was in her room, she ventured across the hall and knocked on the door. “It’s me… can I come in?”

Lindou was in the middle of reading one of her favorite books when she heard a knock at the door followed by a familiar voice. After closing her book, she opened the door to see Silane. From her words, Lindou couldn’t help but think that there might’ve been something wrong. “You can come in,” She said, stepping aside so that Silane could enter the room. “... Is everything alright?”

As a vampire, Lindou was raised knowing how humans should not be trusted. There’d been a long and complicated history with the group, and she was told that at this point it was impossible to be repaired. The two factions would have to go on living separately unless they wanted to create more conflict. In the beginning, Lindou intended to follow these rules. After all, they had only been put in place for her own safety.

Lindou knew that being at the stream wasn’t the best idea since it marked the border with the territory that the humans claimed for their own. But on this particular day, it drew her unlike any other. Today, she couldn’t seem to resist the sound of the water rushing over the rocks and the sunlight reflected by the water. She’d always kept her distance and had never seen anyone on the other side of the stream, so Lindou figured it would be safe to be closer to it. For awhile, it was fine. She brought a book, sat on top of one of the larger rocks, and allowed the sounds of nature to fill the background. It was peaceful... until she noticed a figure emerging from the forest on the other side of the stream: presumably a human.

Panic spiked through her. Lindou had never seen a human in her life and never intended to see one. Before she could clearly see their face, she leapt off the rock and backed away from the stream, keeping her eyes on the figure to make sure they wouldn’t suddenly rush towards her. Lindou had no intention to fight or harm the human on the other side of the water. She would not prove herself to be a monster like most of the humans thought she was, nor would she allow herself to further the divide between the two groups.

“I hate losing my train of thought.”

As prefects, Lindou and Silane had the responsibility of teaching various subjects to the other girls in the sanatorium. Obviously, the lessons that they would teach required some amount of planning in which the two girls would sit in their office together and devise plans for the subjects that they particularly enjoyed. Usually, it would be relatively quiet in the office while they did this since they were so focused. But today, Silane spoke up, causing Lindou to look up from the various notes that she was attempting to organize into a plan.

“What are you working on?” Lindou asked, peering at the other’s paper to try and get an idea before Silane would answer.

After finding a piece of paper and a pen, Silane ventured towards Lindou’s room to ask the girl to spend some time with her. Forgetting to knock first, she let herself in and went round to the side of the bed where the older girl was still sleeping. When Lindou didn’t respond to Silane gently poking her arm, the child hoisted herself up on the bed and patted the blanketed figure with a little more force, pouting slightly at the fact she wasn’t awake by now. “Lindou, wake up!"

It was a startling awakening for Lindou, and at first she had no clue who it could be that was trying to wake her. The voice was clearly that of a child’s and Lindou shared no close relationships with any of the children in the sanatorium, so there was only one other option. Upon opening her eyes, Lindou discovered her answer. “Silane?” She blinked a few times before forcing herself to sit up in her bed. “What is it?”
