”Yel? Are you here?” Valentina called out, before the sound of her key was heard as it hit against the the shelf. She was doing her best not to drop anything as she stepped through the door, she’d had a hard enough time deciding what to make today, the last thing she needed was to ruin it by spilling the ingredients on the floor before she’d even stepped into the kitchen. “Okay, so just the one.”
Without even realizing she was doing it Valentina’s eyes scanned the rooms on the way to the kitchen, looking for any sign of struggle— any sign that Yelena had been here before and was forced out. The reasoning behind Yelena’s disappearance was still fresh in Valentina’s mind and despite Yel’s requests, she couldn’t just stop worrying.
The moments passed quietly, except those Valentina filed with hums as she worked. She was cooking as a distraction, even she’d realized that half way through, using it to stop herself from calling Yelena (again) and asking if everything was okay. Keeping her hands busy so she wouldn’t step out into the balcony and scan the people below.
