✬ On masculinity in ofmd by @edwardsilkheart
✬ The different genres various characters are in, and how they clash and synthesize by @fuckyeahisawthat (THIS is required reading and the reason this show works so well, all these different & contrasting flavours combined into something truly delicious. If you read nothing else on this list, read this)

[ID: a tweet from laura, user lemtovs on twitter reading “give lucius one day in the wwdits house and nandermo would get together” END ID]
remember how i said ed is eurydice and stede is orpheus
pls consider that also: ed is hades and stede is persephone
Why does the “got yourself pretty stabbed up there by some Spaniards” always get me? 😆
it’s actually pretty fucking hilarious that one day i casually decided to watch our flag means death and now it’s consumed my entire fucking being and set my soul on fire and i cannot think of anything else except for those gay ass fucking pirates kissing softly on a beach
cat energy vs. dog energy
Passage of time
The world is ready for a comedic gay sex scene and Our Flag Means Death is the show that should do it. gimme fumbling middle-aged men trying to figure out how to kiss like they actually care about each other while overly-aggressively shoving each other into furniture and exchanging banter in a storm on the sea with things flying around the room and hitting them
why would you leave a gem like this in the tags?
Blackbeard as girl in the red kimono
"Peasants marry for love"
Years later Stede removes himself from all wealth in the pursuit of love.
Stede: Ed, how do you like your tea?
Ed: As dark and bitter as my soul
Stede: Oh, so a dollop of milk and seven sugars
Our Flag Means Death perfectly fulfills the desire I assume we all had for a show about captain shakespeare from stardust
Omg how had I not thought of that…
The hold middle aged gay men have on my mental health is just. Staggering.
I was not frickin’ ready for what this frickin’ show was going to do to my frickin’ life! AND I’M ABOUT FRICKIN’ SICK OF IT!
I love it so much though…
I think I’m gonna go scroll to 17:32 of episode 9 for the 16th time today…
Cant stop thinking about how Stede got the “Kraken” idea from Izzy being threatening behind the curtain. I’m getting somewhere, I promise-
Ed thinks of himself as the Kraken and Stede as the lighthouse(shown by him thinking of Stede as he looks at the lighthouse painting), but the subtext of the show thus far actually has placed Izzy as the Kraken and Mary as the lighthouse.
Mary is a perfect example of what Stede needs to avoid in order to be truly happy in his own life. Izzy is a perfect example of someone truly horrible and cruel trying to bring everyone he can down into the depths with him.
Stede’s own fear of being a lighthouse to Ed is part of what drove him to run back home to Mary. He doesn’t want to ruin Ed upon the rocks.
idk is ANY of this is coherent but it gets me that the real lighthouse in the show is Mary and the real Kraken is Izzy, but Ed and Stede have internalized their respective fears of being the lighthouse/kraken.
