CastAR, the unique AR/VR gaming headset coming from Technical Illusions, made an appearance behind closed doors at CES 2014. Road to VR is the first to go hands-on with the latest HD prototype. 11 great projects that raised over $1 million through Kickstarter this year
Check out #8!
castAR: bridging the physical world with the virtual worlds; 3D holographic like projections in AR, fully immersive environments in VR
Jeri Ellsworth and Rick Johnson designed the CastAR for games, but the tech itself is innovative enough to change the field of wearable computing.

"We added a new stretch goal recently at $700,000 which will allow you to play your videos on VLC with castAR. This will give you a very cinematic experience when using the AR/VR Clip-ons as well as projecting it out to a surface. We will also be releasing a video of the game we created with the Game Jam soon. We are just working on final polish and tweaks. Thanks for everyone who participated and gave us company during the jam."
castAR - Augmented & Virtual Reality Glasses
This has been an exciting year for augmented reality & virtual reality. Google glass, Oculus Rift, and now a new contender castAR. castAR, which has just achieved its success in Kickstarter, is said to feature most of what we techies dream of: holograms with augmented reality and virtual reality world. While it’s still pretty much in early stage, it does give a glimpse into how promising the future of gaming and storytelling could be. My only worry would be that the increasing number of different players could mean fragmentation for the new virtual reality.

Using Alternative 3D Input Devices with castAR - Leap Motion
Jeri Ellsworth and Rick Johnson, co-founders of the gaming startup Technical Illusions, had one month to reach their Kickstarter crowdfunding goal of $400,000 to expand their new 3D glasses technology. They blew through that goal in 53 hours.
Finally got some local TV coverage! Check out the story and take a peek in our lab :)
Here's a video showcasing how easy it is to alter an existing Unity game to work on the castAR system all in under 2 minutes.
