Nothing better than a little altitude. And sometimes nothing worse.
Wool landscapes
Artist Alexandra Kehayoglou uses leftover scraps from her family’s carpet factory to fabricate wool carpets and rugs that mimic natural textures environments. The results are stunning, it actually feels like the outdoors inside.
"Geese appear high over us, pass, and the sky closes. Abandon, as in love or sleep, holds them to their way, clear in the ancient faith: what we need is here. And we pray, not for new earth or heaven, but to be quiet in heart, and in eye, clear. What we need is here." -Wendell Berry (at Nördlinger Hütte)
Go all the way with it. Do not back off. For once, go all the goddamn way with what matters.
Ernest Hemingway (via h-o-r-n-g-r-y)
In the spring of this year, I was in an empty sushi restaurant on a cold night with my friend Zach. We talked about what music meant to us and how that meaning seemed to be thinning more and more as music became a commodity rather than art. We talked about the power of gathering people around something. We talked about all the brilliant people we know that never end up in the same room to do creative work together. We knew it was naïve, but we used the word "movement" to describe what we wanted to see happen in Nashville. A movement to re-claim music as sacred. To share it with each other as something that has deep meaning. To see it become more than simply entertainment. That's when The Radial Conservatory was born. Throughout the year as we've shared this idea with other musicians, composers, and visual artists, the ideas have become bigger and the movement has become more real. A group of us have been working hard to create something as big as our dreams throughout the year, and all of you who came out on Monday made it real. I can't express how honored I was to share that space with you. What happened that night was made possible by all of us together--everyone in the room who shared the same wonder brought our unlikely dreams to life. If Monday is any indicator, big things are coming. We are so excited to keep doing this with you. 📷: @mikaela_hamilton #theradialconservatory (at WELD)
The Radial Conservatory is finally having our first concert next Monday! We've been working really hard on this project throughout the year, and are so excited to finally share some of it with you. We are turning the WELD event space into a blanket fort, and you can lay on the floor and watch the brilliant visuals projected by Stephen Proctor as you listen to our neoclassical/ambient musical performance, so you definitely want to be there. And bring your coziest blankets/sleeping bags/pillows along. The show begins at 7 and admission is free! Oh, and bring along a six pack of your favorite cold weather beer or a batch of mulled cider if you'd like.☺️ (at WELD)
Unadorned, no-nonsense mountains.
