"Hah, you're getting quite the workout with all this sitting and standing." Ignis picked on the human as they trailed behind the archmage.
"Hardly, unless someone asks me to put on an improvised stage play, I can do this all day." Viridis shot back, tucking his book back into its satchel and twirling his cane a few times in a showy fashion. "Besides, I just may have to get back into the habit of doing that if we'll be staying here long. Then again, I should probably be blending in instead of standing out..."
While the two of them mulled it over, Viridis took careful note of each room and description they were fed information on as they were toured through the castle. Much as the library excited him, Viridis hung a moment on the aquarium and greenhouse, tempted to turn back and have a long look at the creatures and plant life of this world. Pragmatism, and a bit of impatience on Ignis' part kept his footsteps in line behind the Archmage till they reached the corridor dividing the kitchens from someone's room across the way. Yet more locations for him to remember, and though he planned to try his best and map out the floorplan he had seen already, it was the names he fixated on most. People were not his strong suit, but he was making a full effort to get better at making sure to make a good impression and actually remember things about specific individuals.
"Oh, that's a useful feature, thank you." He reached out and took the stone, considering where he ought to keep it for lack of pockets, before simply dropping it into the opening of his left elbow-high glove quickly. "I might need to ask you about something that can help with information that's written down, but for now there's no real reason to rush. It might be a good idea for Ignis and I to just learn whatever dialect and writing is most commonly used. Now, you wanted me to meet with someone first, this.. Ushia person?"
"I like the sound of organized chaos." Ushia said closing the door before the Archmage could enter. "You know the privacy policy. Please wait in the hallway." She walks away from the door and begins rummaging through the piles of clothes. "Gloves I think will probably be the easiest part. Just need to find... Here it is!" From the pile of clothes, she pulled out a tape measure. It looked old, and well used, but otherwise unremarkable.
"Alright, now we can-" She looks at the paints Viridis cleaned up. A mild look of confusion and then surprise washed over her face. Of course he was a mage. That certainly would affect what materials the gloves would be.
"Oh hey, thanks. Those paints were expensive. As for what the miniatures are for, nothing really. I just thought they looked cool, but hated the color." Her gaze turned to Ignis, and she looked at him deep in thought. "I could do a bowtie for him... What exactly is he made of though?" She turned back to her guest and motioned for him to hold his arms out for measuring. "He doesn't look totally physical, so I don't think normal fibers would suit him."
Appreciative that even the lord of the castle had to mind his guest’s privacy, Viridis obliged to stand at attention with his arms aloft for Ushia to do her measurements. “I see, well it certainly sounds like an interesting impulse hobby.” When the conversation rounded to Ignis however, the two of them exchanged a brief look. “Welll...” Ignis stalled, trying to weigh whether the consequences of a third party having this knowledge. Viridis gave a short nod, and the Selik continued. “It’s a bit like this.” The creature grabbed one of the yet-unpainted figures and tossed it in the air, catching it before waving it about as he explained. “I’m physical enough to interact with stuff, and my form is solid when I’m out and about. But sometimes, I need a bit of a break, and when that happens, I stick with the kid here dispersed as energy.” To illustrate, he dropped the figure back onto the table, before seeming to dive into Viridis’ outstretched hand and vanishing. Picking up the explanation, Viridis continued. “As for what he’s made of, this stays between you, me, and the other residents of this castle. Ignis is a being of Ether, an energy that is new to this world. It’s something I’d like to share information about in more detail with your boss, but for now, I’d rather get settled and blend in while I stay here.”
Ushia paused at watching the Selik vanish into Viridis. She's seen some strange thing in her time here at the castle, and even stranger things on her father's side of the family, but a symbiotic creature combo like that was new. Not incredulously weird, but more of a lateral shift on the weird charts from the typical. It would also make his clothes a lot more complicated. Not impossible, but she really didn't want dad finding out about this whole new energy thing.
"The secrets of Ether will pass not my lips, don't worry about that. I do want to try making him something to match your outfit, but getting material that'd stay with him when he's dispersed won't be easy... Unless he can quickly grab a tie from your pocket when he comes back out." She finished up measuring, noting the thickness of his clothing's material and adjusting the measurements for that.
"As for you, I think things will be pretty cut and dry for your materials. A few light enchantments to keep dirt off and to make sure you don't have to worry about them tearing just to be safe." And in case he gets in a fight, some basic protection from spells or weapons. But probably best not to encourage him to test that out. "So aside from gloves, anything else I should know about? Preference of material type or color, type of magic you use, old injuries that need a softer material, secretly have wings you can sprout from your back?"
