Ahsoka and Anakin babysitting Stinky Rotta, Jabba’s son. // pt. 1
#the parallels between Anakin and the Huttlet are strong#and purposefully drawn#both hail from Tatooine#Rotta is a ‘stolen child’#and his kidnapping keeps being blamed back and forth on ‘the Jedi’ and ‘the Sith’#and who is the ultimate Stolen Child of the Star Wars universe but Anakin himself?#first taken from his mother to be ostensibly raised by the Jedi#and then ‘stolen’ by Sidious#this film even hammers this parallel home by having Anakin return the stolen child while wearing a backpack #a la little Ani in TPM#and even though the Hutts are rightfully Anakin’s 'enemies’#(they enslaved him and his mother after all)#here Anakin nonetheless helps save their child from the Sith and return him home#Anakin was himself denied a happy homecoming#but here with Ahsoka’s assistance he is able to give this to another Stolen Child#as always Ahsoka’s presence helps him accomplish what he cannot do on his own#'it is the Will of the Force that you are at my side’ (x)

I decided to do something a little bit insane. I sat down and typed every word spoken in revenge of the Sith so I could then hand write every word to create this scene redraw. I am very pleased with the final result I’m not gonna lie.
concept: in addition to having a higher sensitivity for death (re: fantasy hyperempathy), because "death yet the force" anakin can sense dead people's presence in the force. but because most of the people who die around him die in increasingly violent and senseless ways, it doesn't comfort him at all and just messes with his psyche in even more incomprehensible ways, especially if he had literally just felt the person's death on a (meta)physical level
Someone mentioned how they were having a hard time creating a world for their fantasy fiction geographically because they kept reinventing the island of Britain, which also happened to my good close enemy George R. R. Martin. I would like to suggest North Carolina. I know that sounds absolutely ridiculous but North Carolina has an awesome geographic setup for a fantasy kingdom, I think. Inhospitable barrier islands, constantly shifting shoals in the sound, swamps with alligators, venomous snakes and carnivorous plants, lots of very flat and somewhat sparsely populated farmland, foothills, mines, mountains full of mysterious phenomenon that were originally very difficult to navigate and people still get lost in today. It kind of rocks.
AND VENUS FLYTRAPS ARE NATIVE TO THE CAROLINAS!
There are actually 36 carnivorous plant species native to North Carolina, roughly half of all carnivorous plant species in the United States are found in North Carolina! I added the carnivorous plant detail because that’s something I love about the state. We have so many fucking bugs that the plants keep evolving to eat them.
I love that giant man eating Venus flytraps are worldbuilding staples in untamed tropical fantasy settings but they’re actually native to a small region in the Carolinas.
And I agree with the notes, the Chesapeake Bay + Great Dismal Swamp (partially in NC anyway) and the South Carolina Lowcountry would be good geographic additions to this.
He is…just a boy.
My attempt to illustrate the explosion of feels that comes over me whenever I hear Vader speak this line. How he seems to almost lose his cool here… it’s a loaded line, even just taking ESB on its own, but in the context of the PT, even more so. His reaction…instinctively trying to deflect Sidious’ attention away from Luke (’he is just a boy’), and back toward Obi-Wan—trying, futilely, to convince Sidious that Obi-Wan was the real ‘threat’ and that Luke surely can’t be powerful enough to trouble themselves over (don’t look at Luke, please look anywhere but him…). Simultaneously revealing, in his choice of words, just how much his past still haunts him…and just how much Luke means to him. His son, his son, whom he must be nearly panicking over now that the Emperor has discovered his identity, because of course he knows exactly what Sidious wants him to do before he even says it (the parallel/contrast of the above scenes drives this connection home), and he’s actually trying to make it so he *doesn’t* have to, this time. This is a glimmer of light in him, even though he’s still trapped in such darkness, and haunted, as always, by his past.
what she says: i’m fine
what she means: anakin skywalker spent his whole life hoping to escape from slavery - first from gardulla and watto on tatooine, then later from the entrapments of the jedi order - until he finally realized that servitude must truly be the only option, and dejectedly joined the sith. his turn to the dark side was not only a desperate attempt to save his wife and future children, but also a passive and resigned acceptance that he would never be able to live as a truly autonomous individual able to choose his own path, which was always his ultimate goal. even after becoming darth vader, anakin never once used jedi mind tricks. yes, he had other ways of getting people to do as he wished, but he never took away anyone’s ability to think for themselves. his character is so often reduced to simply a petty villain, but anakin was so much more than that.
as much as i love vader getting to fuck palpatine over, as much as i think it's the best thing, and as much as i love AUs where everyone gets together to curbstomp the emperor, i always wanted to see an AU where palpatine dies unexpectedly from the complications of being a bitch just because:
palpatine never intended to die, in my mind, he just aimed to prolong his life through sith bullshit ad infinitum, so i don't think he ever officially established a successor or even a method of transitioning power. i think everyone collectively assumes vader is his heir, on account of vader being the only person with the horrendous job of actually having to talk to the emperor directly all the time. but there's not anything binding except for the fact that if darth vader wants the imperial throne, he can crush the litany of people who would like to stop him like bugs, and i think everyone would assume in turn that vader - a guy who is famous for his frothing at the mouth about the empire's Divine Vision For The Galaxy - would want the throne.
this is, categorically, false, because every single time he's thought about killing palpatine, he had someone else he wanted to hand the throne. this is an awkward situation in which everyone is waiting for vader to stake his claim on the throne in the immediate aftermath of palpatine's death, and vader's like [automated breath] i..... have...... rebels.... to kill......... but i think, as horrific at diplomacy as vader is, he's at least savvy enough to know that the second he corrects everyone and tries to cede the throne, the infighting as everyone makes a play for the throne would cause a ridiculous amount of unrest. so he can't just cede the throne, but he's next to incapable of being functional without serving His Imperial Majesty's Divine Vision, and he needs to choose a successor as fast as possible and then he can possibly consider finding a ditch to lay down in because his one last attachment to the mortal plane died.
i know it'd be more reasonable for vader to kick punt someone like tarkin at the throne, but consider that vader is, fundamentally, unreasonable. and at this point in time, he's also famous for being kind of a religious zealot, and he would absolutely choose this particular time of all the times to trust in the force. so he meditates, considers the sane options, but the force keeps lingering on senator leia organa from alderaan - and it's doing that because she's secretly his daughter, but he doesn't know that, and theoretically this is enough ahead of ANH that he doesn't even have an inclination that she's a rebel spy. but if the force wills it.
so leia, all of eighteen years old, is named empress by darth vader and he doesn't have the grace to tell her he's going to name her empress first, he just kind of goes in front of the imperial senate and does it. i think it would be utterly hilarious if vader handed the empire over to the rebels without knowing it, handed the empire over to his daughter without knowing it, and now leia has to figure out how to safely un-empire an empire while being empress without causing too much chaos.
which is not a job made easier by the wheezing war criminal who keeps kneeling in front of her and asking, "what is thy bidding, my master," because leia has unknowingly inherited the weirdest position in relation to vader anyone could have, and he's kind of relying on tradition to cope. i really just want you to imagine an ongoing bit where one of vader's cybernetic arms gets wrecked while he's suppressing a coup organized against the new empress, and he leaves it like that for weeks because palpatine always had to clear off significant changes like replacement prosthetics, and he keeps waiting for leia to do it. she finally snaps at him to just go and get it fixed, and vader's thrown into an array of distress because that is NOT how this works!!! his MASTER clears off his medical procedures, it ALWAYS works like that, and leia's confusion is bone-deep, because obviously that only makes sense to vader.
wouldn't vader notice the empire getting un-empired by the new secretly-a-rebel empress, you wonder. i would say that he probably wouldn't, because as horrific as palpatine was, he was also all of vader's will to live, up until the moment leia shows him a singular basic courtesy - like not being weirdly involved in the process of vader getting a new arm - and vader decides that he is going to froth at the mouth about Her Imperial Majesty's Divine Vision, instead, until she sees fit to grant him death.
i just think it would be really funny if leia had to deal with learning that vader, on top of being omnicidal and a war criminal, is also just really ridiculous as a person, and very annoying but in a sad way.
🚨HOMER ALERT 🚨 a copy of a section from The Iliad has been identified as the text in a papyrus placed on the abdomen of a mummified person, excavated last year, as part of the embalming ritual. Pride of place, not stuffed inside a cavity like previously found texts, and the first piece of Literature found on a mummy and in a funerary context.
And guess which bit it is?
THE CATALOGUE OF SHIPS 😂😂😂😂
(Well, we all knew those pages had to be *someone’s* favourite bit 😉)
BRB, off to shoehorn this into a lesson…

I think the fandom as a while doesn't stop too much to think about the emotional damage that Anakin sees Obi-wan as a father and Obi-Wan INSTEAD sees and treats him (like we can see) as a little brother. I mean Anakin went around with this vulnerable absence in his life.
One headcanon I have is that: Obi-Wan abstained from at most treating him like a little brother and shut down any "invitation" of Anakin to make the next step of becoming a father to him.
And also, for his part I think Anakin could see this but tried anyway and only grew a fairly justified grudge on his part.
it is incredibly emotionally damaging! I wish this was more explored in the fandom, which is unfortunately generally allergic to exploring obi-wan's flaws (rip to husborth).
it's not even a headcanon, really! it's an elaboration of the iconic AOTC scene where obi-wan, in response to anakin being 'you're like father to me', is like 'then why tf do you never listen to me'. it's in the text, yet some fans want us to believe that their relationship wasn't dysfunctional.
I think that fandom focuses too much on familiar roles and not enough on the quality of the relationship itself. Big brothers can be open and supportive while fathers can be distant and overcritical . Problem with Obi-Wan is that his goal was to turn Anakin into a proper jedi to fulfill his promise to Qui-Gon and to satisfy the council. Anakin was already “tainted” by an attachment to his mother so Obi-Wan went extra lengths to keep his mentorship clean of any emotional nonsense and it brought only harm to them both.
Some suitless Vader for Halloween - inspired by this picture of Hayden bts on the Kenobi show
I don't understand the problem with that headcanon. Autistic people can develop a special interest even in an abusive environment, even if that special interest was originally their job, which they didn't choose. Anakin doesn't just do mechanics because Watto forces him to: he spent hours watching other mechanics to understand how they worked, and he built things for his own use in secret from his master. I don't think Anakin would have continued to do mechanics as an adult if he didn't have a passion for it.
Because its always used in a flippant "Anakin was a weirdo who had no friends and got obsessed with machines" when canonically he was a slave child who had friends and was forced to develop these skills to survive. He was also using them to help other people in the community and was trying to build a scanner to locate slave chips . Its safe to say Anakin was taught these skills by his mother and he will always cherish them just for that reason alone.
Don’t look back.
An early happy Star Wars day!

Everyone has been looking at Anakin's politics wrong going Republican this, Progressive that. He may be authoritarian (by way of Palp's grooming) but really he's the type of radical who distrusts the system so much he probably would think him voting was pointless on any level. The only politicians he trusts are ones he knows personally (unfortunately one of these is Palpatine). He trusts direct action over any politics but because of this distrust of the system he believes that if a politician was going to be able to do anything it would be in conflict with the system, leading to authoritarianism. I feel like I've cracked some sort of Anakin code, my eyes are WIDE open.
