If they weren’t just friends, what would Kai and Felice’s first kiss look like?
First up, Anon, congrats on having the first question that appeared in my inbox this morning!
Secondly: The idea of them being romantically involved was something that I considered for quite a long time, but eventually found that it didn't seem to fit the plotline very well, so left it behind a few drafts ago. Here's what I dug up:
-Their first kiss would be quick, and messy, but not exactly the type of make out sesh you'd usually see in a teen-lit book.
-Kaia'd make the first move (because feminism.)
-It'd probably happen casually; they'd be sitting down together and suddenly she'd just kiss him without giving it too much thought.
-They would, however, have to be in an established relationship before any of this could happen, Kaia wouldn't just kiss him spontaneously.
-She'd also ask him if she could first, because consent is sexy.
She looked up from her book, Felice was sketching something on a page that he'd definitely used before and desperately pretending that it wasn't Kaia. He glanced at her and accidentally made eye contact, immediately turning away and trying to bite back his blush. Kaia reached for his leg and set her hand on his thigh, squeezing it.
"Hey." She muttered, Felice ignored her as he tried to keep his composure. She tapped his leg that time, withdrawing her touch to sign his name as she spoke. "Felice."
He turned back to face her, but avoided meeting her eyes and continued sketching as he signed in reply.
"Look at me, please." Kaia continued signing as she smiled, Felice reluctantly looked up and focused on her hands, still not comfortable meeting her eye. "Are you drawing me?"
Felice shook his head, obviously lying. Kaia laughed slightly. "Can I see?"
Felice shook his head again, holding it to his chest protectively and sticking out his tongue. Kaia rolled her eyes, grabbing his attention just as he began to look away again. "Felice."
"Final question, I promise." She tapped his leg again. "Look at me, please."
Felice sighed and did so, setting his sketchbook aside.
Kaia smiled, muting her voice and choosing to just sign her next question.
Felice stared at her in surprise.
Felice smiled softly then, shuffling closer to her as Kaia slid her bookmark amongst the pages and set the book on the grass beside Felice's sketchbook, trying to prove that she was serious. She smiled at him, and Felice smiled wider, making eye contact with her for just a few seconds before glancing away again.
Kaia did, grabbing his face and bringing it closer to her, then pressing her lips against his for a second before pulling away. Short but sweet. Felice smiled at her and she smiled back, a blush spreading up his nose that expanded out into his cheeks, Kaia stroked his face with her thumb before leaning back again. Thank you. He signed, smiling again, Kaia laughed.
No problem, love. She winked on the final word and Felice scoffed, opening his mouth to laugh as she settled back into her reading.
