I'm wondering what your thoughts are about the apparent ongoing effort to dismantle the "Bury Your Gays" page. If you haven't heard apparently it is felt that the trope isn't specific enough, and that "an LGBTQ character dies" isn't tropeable. (Also, please share my Pocahontas message.

if they mean that they’re gonna dismantle it and reword it to explain why it’s wrong rather than just place dead lesbians in a slot with little explanation, then cool on them! 

buuuuuut if they mean they removing it because ITZ NOT TROPEY ENUF (like the concept of nonbinary character wasn't tropey enough) then i’m just. jesus christo. how can you make a trope bitching about jewish people being main characters and then remove a homophobic trope with years of backstory on why it’s bad then what are you DOING

So I found this little chestnut on the YMMV for Disney's Pocahontas. WARNING: This is probably the most fucked up thing on tvt, and the fact that it stayed up for so long is damning (I deleted it). Here it is:

Racism goes both ways. This Aesop is particularly effective because unlike other media, it avoids portraying the white people and as totally evil and the natives as totally good. Pocahontas and John Smith are good, and Governor Ratcliffe is bad, but everyone else on both sides is varying shades of grey. Although Ratcliffe was on an exploitative mission, most of the settlers joined him because they wanted to have a much better life in the New World than what they had in England. Powatan's tribe ''did'' have every right to be concerned when the settlers came along (especially with weapons, garb, and hairstyles that they had never seen before) but they still reacted with hostility and violence instead attempting to understand "the paleface visitors". Each side ended up totally dehumanizing the other and saw them as animals unworthy of life. So long story short, even though the English miners committed the original wrong when they set foot in North America, the Native Americans were far from innocent themselves.

I really, really dislike the convenient miscarriage trope. I never experienced miscarriage myself, but I read people's accounts of it, and it's a horrible, traumatic experience akin to losing a child. The way tvtropes presents it would be okay if they acknowledged that it doesn't work that way irl, but they don't. The page shows no sensitivity to the issue at all. I can't imagine how it would feel to undergo a miscarriage and then stumble upon that page.

this and the boatload of slavery pages are like a prime example on how not to describe atrocities in a “non-biased” way 

(though more accurately it’s kinda just treating losing a kid as a ‘oh dang that sucks’ moment or ‘bad writing!11!’ with zero tact)

the positive discrimination page i feel describes literally everything you just said perfectly because it’s literally only two token characters and the rest are just “WOMAN IS GOOD AT SPORT? ACTUALLY BAD STEREOTYPE MISANDRY”

I can't read the Undertale pages on TV Tropes anymore without getting utterly pissed at people using s/he for Frisk/Chara and saying their gender is 'up too interpretation'......when they are canonly NB. (Also blaiming Chara for the players actions...)

this is on the far more "petty bullshit" than the "systemic problems of right wingers on the site" but there's at least a few people who camp the pokemon pages and remove anything related to competitive battling and push it to Smogon (the lead pokemon battling site), which has its own page; this, of course, ignores the fact that pokemon has official competitions and competitive rankings and such still exist even if some people don't like them. but there's no such thing as notability, right??
