the last few days had successfully made rasheed rethink his decision to join pandora. it was a slap to the face in a way similar to losing a wrestling match, except there was a grave consequence lurking behind a slip-up and quite possibly death, not just going home defeated. the two years he spent during his calibration (or transformation) did help paint his new reality, but it didn't prepare him for the clusterfuck of enemies swarming the base. perhaps it was naïveté, but the whole thing was far from what rasheed had in mind. but what was done is done and all he could do right now was help with the clean-up, finding people to talk to to help loosen the tension coiling in his shoulder blades.
“hey, kid,” rasheed called out to the other agent with a small, hesitant smile. cyper didn't look well; there was a worrying gleam in his otherwise dull eyes and, despite rasheed's extroverted nature, it wasn't something he wanted to approach when he was all by himself. the wrestler sat down next to cypher, elbow nudging the other agent's arm. “have you been to the medical bay? have you been sleeping? you look like you need it.”
death was the price you paid for joining project pandora. it was expected that any time you walked out that door, that you could lose your life. it just... he didn't expect to lose his dad, is all. so soon after they'd reconnected. in some ways, he felt like it should've been him instead.
glancing up from his screen, he looks gaunt, face sunken from a lack of nutrition.
" hey, uh... yeah i'm fine. " the medical bay was where he was when this all happened. he was fine, physically, but his mental game wasn't nearly as strong as the others'.
" i've just been helping restore whatever corrupted files I can. we lost a lot of data. "
killshot carried smaller boxes, just to keep himself occupied. his main work had been with the cloning machine, alongside a few other agents. since the system became operational, he was left with no other tasks. so instead he followed his friends around, checking if anyone needed an extra hand. or just gossip.
“ i know. i’m the best.” he said with a playful grin. “ you would take twice as long if i wasn't here to help you. my contribution is immeasurable. ”
he sat on top of a desk and pulled a chocolate bar from his pocket, taking a big bite before offering it to copycat.
“ am i alright? you heard about operation hope remains? ” he scratched his temple, wearing an embarrassed smile. “ not my finest work. it was a very humbling experience to get knocked out of a battle. ”
" really, i'm forever in your debt. " a grin plays at his lips, flirty and forward. he made no qualms about his attraction to agent killshot, the dude was a certifiable knockout.
approaching, he places hands on either side of killshot's thick thighs, leaning in and taking a bite off the top of the chocolate, definitely playing it up a little bit.
" i would've been toast without agent scorch. havin' that kinda power at my fingertips was... hot. " grinning, he nudges the other gently. " you're a great agent. "
vulcan rarely let his mind drift to the years before pandora found its way into his home and took saint away from him. before he obsessed with finding the truth about his husband’s alleged death. in the end, his suspicions were validated – but at what cost? he uncovered the secret organization, joined their ranks and reunited with saint… and lost everything else in the process. friends and family who had only tried to help and yet he pushed them away. no one believed him. they all thought grief had steered him toward insanity.
his biggest regret was not spending enough time with the son he left behind. when he made the choice to stay and undergo the mutation process, he hadn’t fully understood what that meant. he would never see his family again. to them, he would be dead. they would grieve, then move on without him. now he was an agent working from the shadows, trying to keep the world safe. and no one would ever know.
now, more than ever, he understood the importance of family. he couldn’t even imagine what life in atlantis would’ve been like without saint by his side. it made him genuinely happy to see other agents reunited with their brothers, parents, children, old friends or partners. even if the circumstances were far from ideal and work meant constant risk, it meant everything to have that someone.
when he passed by the mess hall, a familiar face caught vulcan’s attention. he froze in place, a moment of hesitation before he walked over there. the young agent looked like a ghost version of himself. vulcan understood the feeling. he had been there before. maybe cypher wanted to be left alone, maybe not. there was only one way to know.
he reached the table and placed a steady hand on cypher’s back, his touch light, just barely there. “mind if i sit?”
grief was like walking through a minefield, and right now, agent cypher had his foot on the explosive; one sudden move, and it would blow up right in his face. he was treading carefully, but it was only a matter of time now.
his body tenses at the sudden touch. somehow, it feels familiar. there's a brief moment, perhaps foolish, where he thinks he might be waking up from a really bad dream. he'd open his eyes and it would be his dad, hand on his shoulder, congratulating him on his first successful assignment.
but... deep down, he knew the truth.
glancing upward, his sunken eyes are wide and innocent, blinking as he struggles to process the visage before him. sleep deprivation had settled into his visage, that much was for certain.
" uh, sure. no prob, bob. " he mumbles, shifting over to give his fellow agent room to sit.
Swayze was not a man of tact or sensitivity. He felt that was one of the things people loved most about him. (Wrong.) He thought people liked how chatty and easy-breezy he behaved in most normal situations. (Also wrong.) When he sees Cypher alone, he decides now is a good time to drop in with a query.
"SO—" he announces with a huff, sitting down besides the other. "Normally I would ask Gridlock to do this stuff for me, but... you're a hacker or something, right? I got a job for you. Sabrina Carpenter... you know her, right? Of course you do, you're gay. I assume. WELL—"
"Heard she has a new album coming out, which means surely the raw files must be laying around on a server somewhere... think you could track those down for me? I'll be forever in your debt, babe—" he says, placing a mildly flirty hand on one of the other's. "And Disco always repays a debt... usually, unless you piss him off. But that never happens. I'm, like, sooooooooo easygoing..." except that one time someone said to my face how they thought Donna Summer was mid—"
deep in thought, little mind was paid to the outside world. he felt like a zombie, a husk of himself. he's only here because of the temporary reconstruction of his room. it wouldn't matter anyway, he wouldn't sleep until his body foricibly turned the lights off on him.
slow to react, it takes a moment for him to glance up at the agent before him. just as slow, does he take in the information. blinking, there's a delayed start.
" yeah-... uh, of course. i'm sure i can get access to the servers. don't know if they'd be mastered already but... hey, a preview is a preview. "
his lips purse, offering a gentle nod.
" shouldn't be too hard. give me... five minutes? "
task 01 - the greener grass
agent arsenal
agent arsenal had grown up mostly on his own, fending for himself in the wild. this would definitely continued had he not been apart of project pandora. he was content to live on the land, off the grid, and by himself. his friend was the wilderness, and the occasional regular face he'd met during his runs to town. peaceful, quiet, isolated.
agent chimera
the biggest disappointment. it's entirely unclear where agent chimera would be without czernobog, or pandora, to define him. he was robbed of his identity at such a young age, no one knew the boy he was before. robbed of any identity, his potential would be limitless if he hadn't endured these trials.
agent copycat
friendly and easygoing, agent cypher definitely would've thrived in a social field. influencer, therapist, nurse, wherever he could help others, he would. given his beach bum life prior to his contraction within the program, he likely would've spent his summer as a lifeguard, putting himself through school to help those who need it.
agent cypher
agent cypher was pretty content with his life prior to his forcible entry into project pandora. he would've completed his masters in computer information systems, gotten a nice, high paying job, and used his resources to track down his missing uncle. he would've remained quite close to his father, never straying too far, even when it was time to strike it out on his own.
agent hotwire
ever the playboy, agent hotwire would've remained in korea, where he would take up a career as a businessman, or work within the government. easygoing, but determined, he likely would've been rather charismatic, earning him some level of adoration within his community. the affluence of his parents would've opened doors his looks and charm couldn't.

things were a bit rocky at atlantis right now given the attempted siege: kabuki was out on assignment when it all happened, so when they came back, the acrobat was fearful of just how bad everything had gotten. to hear that there would be a vigil held wasn't exactly comforting, as that meant a body count of the dead was hefty. but rumi was glad to know that a few friendly faces still existed like agent hotwire's. you'd have thought there was a celebrity at base the way rumi's face lights up as they run and give a tight embrace ❛ it's soooo good to see you, hy- I mean, hotwire ! ❜ they did their best not to blab out agents' names to keep up with pandora's rules, even if they did find them a bit cold. ❛ how've you been ? you weren't hurt during the attack, were you ? ❜
“ you can call me hyung, silly. you should, i'm your senior. ” junho laughs softly, catching the smaller into his arms with a soft hum. he was pretty friendly, but he liked his little titles, perhaps a bit spoiled overall. hands rest on their waist, humming as he smiles down at agent kabuki.
“ nope, they had me up against a bunch of grunts. not nearly as bad as what the others had to face. ” with his powers, he could wipe a room of foot soldiers with little issue. unfortunately, their peers weren't so lucky, facing far bigger threats. “ how was your assignment? tell me everything. ”
“ agent kabuki. good to see you’re doing okay. “ junho hums softly, face scrunched up into a smile. while casualties were to be expected during your tenure within the project, he always held a bit of worry for those he’d grown fond of over the years. too often, he’d returned from assignment to find a dear friend missing in action, or worse.
it was nice kabuki made it out alive.
“ ah, don’t be shy. you can greet your hyung with a hug. “ he teases, arms extended out. “ don’t be shy. "

“ y'know, it's so nice if you to be here. ” jj grins as he walks by, easily carrying over a ton of medical equipment from one end of the bay to the other. he'd borrowed some abilities from one of their strong-man agents, giving him the strength to easily transport fallen equipment. “ the eye candy is a real morale booster. ”
with a laugh, he sets down the final object that required such strength, leaving just a bunch of little things to return to their place.
“ haven't heard a lick from you since the invasion. ” he muses, a bit more serious this time. “ doin' alright? ”

stevie loved junho — he really, truly did. when they were good, it was insane. but, ink loved an explosion. he couldn't help but self-eject anytime it got too serious or too good to be true. ink would blame his childhood if he had the capcity to ever think about the why, but that was hardly ever important these days when they had a world to save.
“ yeah, yeah. natural. ” he winked big at hotwire, revving him up always brought him a joy. “ c'mon, you know. it's been a while. you're gonna make me say it? ” stevie looked at junho with a look that clearly wasn't impressed with his little play of coyness, especially when he knew how to make the hotwire's toes curl and have him pant like a bitch in heat.
" you couldn't have missed me that much. " junho wasn't cold, far from it. but he was pretty succinct, to the point. their relationship wouldn't be traditional, even if they were outside of these walls.
they'd sparked a small flame in the midst of a cold, dark world. even if they were away, they'd both add a little kindle where they could, keep it alive, no matter how crazy things would become.
" i was gone for... a month, maybe? " he hoists himself up at the edge of the pool, letting his legs linger in the water, bearing a slight smirk.
" buuuut i'm not one to turn down a night with the second hottest guy in this place. "
" i'm not angry. that's just my face. " and faycal's voice started as impassive, but maybe arsenal prophesized it⸻ couldn't even finish his response without some hints of vitriol slipping out. how could he not be indignant ? always loathed people who assumed how he felt, and loathed those with the audacity to act like a shrink around him. like there was something wrong with him. but of course, there was something wrong with agent reverb : sudden onset rage ; recurrent, disproportionate episodes of impulsive aggression ; signs of sympathetic overactivation. but he had always hated being cognizant of his own dysfunctions. always hated feeling like he needed help. and if he ever decided to get help, he definitely wasn't taking it from some stranger who all but told him to take a fucking xanax or air out his problems. " actually i'd prefer it if you minded your fucking business instead. ' cause i'm not buying what you're selling, " he scoffed, shaking his head at the offer. and sure, arsenal could mean well. but in faycal's eyes, the older man took one look at him and decided he was some mutt that needed to be kept on a mood stabilizing leash. " so unless you're gonna spar with me and help me get stronger for all those czernobog bastards, i recommend leaving me the fuck alone, " he clicked his tongue, head canted slightly, a low chuckle slipping past his lips⸻ after all, arsenal wasn't the only one that could make recommendations.
agent arsenal had lived most of his life in total solitude, spending his days out in his cabin, away from the world. he'd learned a wide array of skills, things that made him valuable to pandora. surviving on his own for so long, even in harsh conditions, proved useful in his preparation for field work.
now that he'd been here a while, he'd gotten to socialize quite a bit. he'd gotten his fair share of mouthy agents.
" sure. " he stands, confident, self-assured.
" i'm much better with steel than i am with words. " and he could assess the agent up close. a win-win.
agent cypher couldn't remember the last time he'd slept, or ate for that matter. much of the weight he'd gained during his two years of training had evaporated over the past few days.
every waking hour had been dedicated to keeping himself busy. work, gaming, whatever kept him distracted. he couldn't stomach thinking about anything else, he'd break under the pressure. nothing in his two years of training could prepare him for this.
it was in the early evening, dark circles under his eyes. he's tucked in a quiet corner of a mess hall, hunched over his laptop. he feels as if he's moving in half-time, slowly tapping at his laptop. it was busywork, sorting through some files and organizing them, but it kept him sane.
yawning softly, he doesn't bother looking up, even when another agent spots him from across the room.

He nods in understanding, even if it's mildly sad to see the young man force himself to reckon with it. 'No man is an island' and all that, which proved incredibly ironic the older and more detached from the world Barney grew.
"Well, it is important to be objective, but it's also alright to be human every once and a while," he says, in a rare moment of positive affirmation. "You lost allies. Some of them may have even been your friends. There's a balance between mourning losses and moving forward without it weighing on you too much."
He shrugs. "Not as long as you, apparently. Enlisted when I was old enough to know I wanted to. But what you're telling me," he then smirks, "is that you might be able to shoot better than I can. You can't be that old, surely?"
“ twenty-four. but i've been a soldier for twelve. ” it was one of the few pieces of information he still had access to, saying nothing about the time between. he would look a bit sheepish, expecting that particular look when he admitted that to strangers. most of the time it was pity, it made him sick, but other times it was… something different.
“ i've had a long time to get a handle on my emotions. ” that, and well, his training sort of ensured he was always a bit dampened when it came to his emotions. maybe the higher up could fix that, he wasn't sure he'd want them to.
“ we can test that theory, though i'm much more efficient with my hands. ”
it was rare that chimera had actually spent time in his room. he much preferred the solitude and quiet in certain hidden locations, squeezing his body behind equipment and dark corners, tucked away for a daytime nap. perhaps it was frowned upon, but it was how he'd lived for years.
"who are you talking to?" the hints of an accent come through his tone as he walks up behind a familiar face, footsteps quiet. he's able to recognize the subtle differences that contrasted vincent and valentine, grunting softly in response.
"i don't normally eat food offered by others." a pause. "but... perhaps i could try it."
jesus fucking chr⸻ val nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard chimera behind him, didn't even hear the footsteps, could have sworn the other agent was in his room. " you fuck, " he exclaimed, palm flat over his chest like that would stop his heart from trying to claw out. and val turned around, glaring at chimera until the thumping in his chest settled down, then a loud longwinded sigh. " do you always sneak up on people like some cryptid ? jesus, chimera ... we should change your callsign to chupacabra. " the words rolled off his tongue lightheartedly despite the initially shooting daggers, shaking his head as he brushed past chimera and waved him toward the small dining table. and val didn't want the food to get colder, so he quickly dished out a serving for chimera⸻ golden melted queso with little craters of char, topped with crumbled chorizo and bright sprigs of cilantro, warm tortillas stacked beside it. though, he couldn't help but be curious. " you don’t normally eat food offered by others ? " he echoed, brows lifting, amused and inquisitive. it must be some kind of trust thing, which made sense in a place like this. especially after casper and harbinger turned out to be double agents for czernobog. " well, i swear on vincent's life that it's not poisoned, if that makes you feel better. and even if it kills you, at least you'll die having tasted perfection. " he smirked, shoulders proudly lifting in a shrug. " i don't half - ass anything. so trust and believe it'll be worth dying for. "
“ i was designed that way. ” everything about him was intended to be war ready. the early generations of his kind were meant to undergo all manner of missions, and he was one of the few who could withstand their ‘therapy’. the more the organization uncovered about czernobog, the more sick it made him. maybe memory loss was the best case for him.
“ poison. effective technique, sometimes untraceable.” and any one of them could be compromised at any point. still, he was trying to be a better comrade, trust his ranks a little more. he usually worked better alone, but that wasn't always possible here.
with a nod, he takes the plate and enters the room, leaving the door open for agent incense to follow.
“ what exactly is… in this? ”
LOCATION : LEVEL 05 - THE COLOSSEUM.
" do you trust me? i really need you to trust me. " gridlock says in an attempt to reassure them that this is safe ... while hoping that the pep in his tone and the smile on his face was enough to cover his doubts. well, it's not like he believes it would fail. they have been working on this high precision aiming mechanism for a while now. and he believes in what they can do! he believes that it will work.
but powers or not, even he has to admit that this is stupid-- having cypher point a charged photon beam at him, clinging on the hope that medusa will be calibrated enough to not hit friends and allies. who is, in this case, him. " just ... one shot. it's gonna work. " he says, rolled fist knocking at the middle of armor he was wearing to show them where to shoot. " i'm ready. "

cypher was new, like embarrassingly so. the need to fit in was stronger than the desire to speak up, which is… how he ended up here. from the jump, this whole thing sounded like a weird hazing ritual. even now, he wasn't sure how much of this was legit.
“ well, i'm gonna be so totally honest, i don't trust it. ” he huffs as he runs the numbers yet another time, making sure their calibrations were quadruple checked. the idea of firing a weapon, one this dangerous, at another agent seemed absurd; even more so since gridlock was the one who'd requested it.
“ okay, just… i've got medical on speed dial. " wincing, he executes the command, the machine slowly coming to life, charging up before it fires, directly at agent gridlock.
cafeteria tray in hand and a rumble deep in his gut. ox looked close to wounded when his attention was stolen from the promise of a midday meal to fill the bottomless pit of his stomach and instead directed his somewhat limited focus at his fellow agent. a moment of hesitation followed closely by an internal admission of defeat. ox let out the smallest of sighs before placing his empty tray aside and moved to sink his burly body down into the seat across from his comrade.
" you look busy. "
ox's face scrunched up a bit when spotting the tablet; he had been doing his best to avoid them. still unsure what he was doing with the big brained brothers of sloth division when all his best performances were on the physical level - martial combat or otherwise.
" not that busy. " flashing a smile, he pulls up the other male's profile, reading over what information was available. the man piqued his interest, humming softly under his breath as his gaze moves from his tablet to his fellow agent.
" how've you been liking it here? " it seems almost clinical, like he was emulating what a human might say. still, his interest is genuine, curious about the new agent. naturally, the others would have their hands all over him soon enough. he'd enjoy what he could get for now.
" have they given you field work yet? "
🪻 - Nightshade hand raised as he cued Cypher to remain in his temporary command center. He ignored the burning and rolling pain that clung to his body as the totality of his injuries had been slow to realization. He watched as the corpse became a stone upon the budding grass beneath their feet. The fragrant blooms followed the cautious procession of their scion investigated the scene. He could still serve as a potential threat. Nightshade's right hand danced through the air as if commanding an orchestra. Vines rip through the ground and hoisted Adrenaline's body to Naji's eye level. Each limb supported by thick trunks. One branching vine ensnared the man's waist. "Hmm." Nightshade inspects him, taking any item which may be considered evidence or crucial to further intel. He removed a finger and the print of his thumb. Stars of Bethlehem bloom as the body is dropped to the ground. The signal was given for Cypher to approach. "Great job!" Nightshade gave a brief moment to honor his efforts as the terms and conditions that were soon to be handed to Cypher during the debrief were going to hit him the heaviest. "Still be observant as you come out." Nightshade stared down at him as he slowly lured the blooms and blossoms into their seedling states. He'd ignore that dirt that would soon congest The Playground's open floor. "Do you have something to burn his body? We don't want a potential zombie situation."
even now, all agent cypher could think about was his father. their opponent had fallen, they'd succeeded. hell, it hadn't even set in that he'd just killed a man. nothing else mattered but making sure his dad was okay.
he seems somber as he begins to make his way toward the door, giving pause just as agent nightshade has a request.
“ oh, right. ” he nods, tapping a few buttons on his peripheral, the laser turret boring a small hole in the corpse, low and slow enough that it began to catch fire, spreading across the man's body. it should be gone soon enough, if the fire suppression system didn't kick on.
“ i'm sorry, i-… i need to go. ” he mutters, sick to his stomach as he goes to make an escape.
“ t-thank you, for the help. ”
he could manage some manners at least, making his way out in search of the only family he had left.
