@vtaedorable
oh my god
If you don’t mind, could you describe the way Taehyung speaks Korean? I wish I knew the language since I feel so much of someone’s personality is shown in the manner speak, the words they choose, etc. I know three other languages and am aware of how many nuances are lost in translations. I’ve read ppl saying his style of speaking is a bit unusual? Since he’s your bias as well, I thought to ask you :)
ah you’re definitely right! there’s another layer to someone’s personality when they speak, and it’s something that translations can’t accurately convey… these are just a few things i’ve noticed (please don’t take them too seriously):
describes things in a more abstract, roundabout way
ex. “it’s been a year, but i think it’s the beginning. i think it feels more than yesterday.” -> it feels like it’s only been a day since our debut
doesn’t finish his sentences completely or drags them out, usually mixes up the order of words, includes pauses mid-sentence
ex. “sorry to the members who heard these ears” -> i’m sorry to the ears that had to hear that ment
ex. “now, these days… i’m listening, wow, chet baker’s… his music is good” (a hypothetical example)
new applications for words he doesn’t know/can’t remember
‘propeller’ -> ceiling fan
‘honey menu’ -> dessert menu
‘blog people’ -> bloggers
‘color changing soup’ -> hair dye
says things like ‘이제’ (now), ‘약간’ (sort of or slightly), or ‘조금’ (a little bit) a lot as filler words. it’s similar to ‘well’ or ‘um/uh’ in english
does lots of hand motions and gestures (?) while speaking
ex. if he’s talking about photography, he does a “clicking camera” pose
swinging his arms around during ments
loosely waves hands or sways back and forth during interviews
makes sound effects like ‘빡!’ (bbak!) or ‘딱!’ (ddak!) when he explains things to add emphasis
accidentally blends words or uses the wrong ones altogether
‘코끼리’ (kkokiri, elephant) instead of ‘꽃길’ (kkotgil, flower path)
‘우리 세기’ (our century) instead of ‘우리세대’ (our generation)
he uses very pure, simple metaphors rather than saying things directly?
“when it’s snowing, i want to buy ARMYs gloves so they won’t get cold. when it’s raining, i’ll cover you all with an umbrella.”
invents a new meaning for purple (trust and love you for a long time), “i purple you”
“i have a big heart of love so please take it all"
daegu dialect always peeks out! if he’s really excited, sometimes satoori is full force
taehyung is always quick to dismiss his abilities and say that he can’t speak well because he occasionally trips over his words, but he has a beautiful mind ;;; his intention and massive heart always shine through every syllable, and you can’t help but be endeared at his way of approaching the world… people may brush him off because he’s not the most eloquent, but he’s one of the most thoughtful and intelligent people i know. these little habits that pop up every once in a while just makes us all ten times more fond
here’s a twitter account dedicated to his cute language habits if you’re interested too
* please note these are random instances. not all of these habits are present always or at the same time, and they’re usually as a result of his thoughts running faster than his brain in a given situation. please don’t take anything above for a fact or reality, it is just a personal observation
