Today my 4 year old was showing me one of her new Frozen books and she was telling me that she's in it too and how they all live together and play together etc. And I could tell she was telling me to confirm that it was normal to pretend. So I told her that I do it too, and I even write stories where I put myself as a character in my favorite books, movies, shows, video games.

Her entire face lit up.

She asked if she could write one too (she doesn't know how yet) so I told her she could draw pictures instead. So she did, and she gets very excited to tell me all about the adventurous she has made up with her favorite characters and herself.

My heart is full and my inner child healed a bit today. Fan fiction and fan art is normal. It's natural and creative and beautiful. And now she knows that it's not just allowed, but encouraged. Her mama does it too.
