This blog may contain anything that is currently bringing me a sense of whimsy but is primarily just reblogged posts with my own commentary in the tags. Aside from that, you'll run into posts regarding the Discord RP bot I am currently working on for my future RP (feline xenofiction).
Posts will be tagged #heyitsfrey or #reblog appropriately.
For those following me to keep track of the bot's progress you can find my to-do list under the cut.
Bot-related posts will be tagged #quillanposting.
Frey's To-Do List
Currently the bot should be able to handle:
User onboarding (bot tutorial)
Character creation, data storage, and roleplay biography
Character mortality status and death-related data storage
Litter generation from parent genetics, health, and season data
Litter mortality date and cause generation by birth date
Roleplay tracking, export, archival, and event generation*
Thread activity reminder and abandonment notifications
Automatic event handling/generation from roleplay start
Automatic health updates and progression to character data
Various helpful/fun commands and automatic interactions
Various server setting commands
*Event generation logic is sound but I haven't had the time to test its function extensively outside of certain test commands.
I still need to add or finish:
Event handling for events that occur outside of roleplay
Automatic character mortality updates
Commands for quick reference to server related documentation
Reorganizing the /help command and displaying various subcommands where needed
I'm also always looking for new things to add to the bot to make it more robust and complete in its uses to support the server, and welcome suggestions as they come.
Mortality is now functional! The whole affair was surprisingly light on editing and did not really warrant the week-long break I took from the bot in fear of the fixes. If there are bugs within these last few updates I have not yet found them.
Immediately after I took these screenshots I swapped the vertical placement of the colour and den fields, which (I think) reads much more cleanly.
Next up: Non-thread related server events and their related health updates to character data.
Would anyone be interested in helping test a discord bot made for an upcoming lore-heavy feline RP?
I'd like to help test and am interested in the RP!
I'd like to help test but am not interested in the RP.
I'm not interested in testing but I am interested in the RP!
No thank you, I'll pass on everything.

Hi all! My name is Frey and I'm currently working on developing a Discord bot to support various server-related activities for my upcoming feline RP (if desired, there are more details on that under the cut).
I have been testing this bot on and off for about a month whilst finalizing documentation (setting lore, member procedures, etc.) for the RP server and have come to the obvious conclusion that it would be best to look for others to test function, as I'm only one very tired person who also works full time.

Tagging characters as dead and mortality generation

As for the server and RP itself, I do genuinely think that it's something new, fresh, and exciting in concept due to the automated processes that the bot will handle, but I wholly understand that it will not be everyone's cup of tea due to the heavy focus on lore and realism.
The server will be 18+ (no NSFW), with the target audience being those that are busy and don't necessarily have the time to spend in a Discord server all day. If I were to provide a rough guess as to the 'genuine' target audience it would be individuals 25+ with an interest in biology, ecology, and anthropology.
The primary themes to be explored within the RP will be those of Survival, and Us vs Them, reflecting many situations found in the news and general climate of the world today. These situations will be explored not only within the player colony (all server members will be part of a single colony) and its internal divisions, but also between the player colony and a secondary group.
While this server is related to cats and thereby will likely be of interest to those in the WCRP community, the lore and setup itself has nothing to do with WCRP and has grounding far more related to less anthropomorphized xenofiction. As an example, there are no equivalent words in the feline language for Mom, Dad and other such familial terms (though there are terms for Sister, Brother, and Sibling), who a cat understands is their 'immediate family' is different depending on their age, and the cats in-lore have 7 sexes (or 4, depending on how you count) and 3 gender groups designated in a manner that would be more relevant to their society.
I don't necessarily want to laud the details of the planned RP on and on in this post as I am of course heavily biased towards it, and that is not really the primary purpose of this post. The current incomplete server documentation is about 50k in length, with lore comprising approximately 30k of that length, and procedures completing the rest of the word count. I had intended to complete the documentation by mid-December, but unfortunately got stuck between the holidays and various medical appointments so hopefully bringing some testers on to help will bring the project back to realignment.
To those who responded, thank you for taking the time to respond to the poll! I’m both glad and surprised to see there’s interest in the setup of the RP with the minimal details I provided.
To those few interested in testing who have reached out to me outside of asks or DMs, I’ll touch base with you soon so we can discuss further. If you’re excited and would rather not wait, just send me an ask or message and I’ll get back to you as soon as I’m able.
If you have not reached out to me in any capacity but are interested in testing the bot, please send me an ask or message! I do not know who you are and so cannot reach out to you myself.
Finally, for those interested in the RP rather than testing, you’ll have to wait a while longer for more details as I don’t want to spread myself too thin between my job, various medical appointments, developing the bot, advertising the RP, and preparing related documentation but if you’d like to ask any questions feel free to reach out via ask or DM and I probably have an answer for you already.
Anyone and everyone CAN write. The world’s most skilled writer didn’t start off skilled. The key is that they practice hard by writing a lot.
As long as you write, you are practicing your craft and you are getting better at writing. But you will never get anywhere if you let AI write for you.
This is, and I cannot stress this enough, extremely normal for literally any even vaguely creative person. I would argue even further that it's a sign of skill: you can prioritize ideas and sift through your thoughts for the best/most excitung ones. Many, many people never get to that second jar at all.
One method for worldbuilding that I find helpful, especially if you are ending up with a world that feels ungrounded or superficial, is to work your way backwards and ask what was needed for us to get here?
Let's say your character is a weaver.
They would have at least one loom. What kind of loom(s) do they have? Do they make their looms or purchase them?
Let's say their purchase their looms. Did they purchase it from someone who makes looms specifically? From the equivalent of Target or Amazon? From a shop where they live or one far away?
Let's say they purchased a large loom from somewhere far away. They would need to transport it somehow. How is transport of large goods done? By car? Plane? Magic? Would they have transported it themselves, or would it have been delivered?
What powers the mode of transportation that they use? Do humans pull carts? Do oxen? Do horses? Do they have cars that run on gasoline or diesel? Do they have teleportation powered by the mass sacrifice of mosquitos for blood magic?
Let's say they have teleportation using mosquito sacrifice for power. Do they breed mosquitos? Gather them? Can they also sacrifice leeches?
Are there ethical debates about sacrificing mosquitos? What about leeches?
And so on.
You can go as deep (or not) on any point of your worldbuilding, and then you can go four steps back and take a different branch. If we go back to the question of them buying the loom from far away, then we also have the question of how they bought it. Did they travel? Order it online? Use a mail-in catalog? And so on.
This can also show you pressure points for your story, things that you can poke at and add tension, either in the foreground or the background. What happens to weavers needing to receive new looms if the wizards start running low on mosquitos?
You don't need to answer any of these questions if you don't want to, or include answers even if you have decided them, but this can be a way to give your world more depth as it needs it.
A random art I made to brainstorm names for the fictional eras leading up to my Sharkfolk’s modern age.
Besides the Anthropocene extinction, the planet faced two more subsequent mass extinctions, along with the past "big five," meaning sharks would have survived eight mass extinctions in total.
The names of the geological eras are temporary, perhaps I'll have better ideas as time goes on. Maybe I'll change my mind about many things, as I always do, it's part of the process, I guess.
---
Something I forgot to mention, out of curiosity, is that this is probably how sharkfolk named the "Big Five," the major previous extinctions that we know of:
What inspired me to explore this is this old video that I really like; it's so interesting to imagine how much this planet has already been through! For curiosity, the ancestors of what would become sharks in the future emerged from the Odorvician period, if you want to count the extinctions they've survived to this day.
I’ve been reading this book on feline sociology recently to do more research for my world building project. While I adore the writing, I fear most of the new and interesting things I am actually learning are simply too esoteric for a public project.

I am skipping your ads as fast as I can. I'm skipping past your sponsor read. I'm muting the tv. I'm muting the tab. If they get too annoying I will simply stop trying to watch.
If advertisers can use every manipulative trick in the book to get me to buy their product, I am fully within my rights to do everything I can on my end to make their job impossible
