“I don’t do heavy lifting but I’m sure I can find someone who can,” She saw a rather brawny man passing by, “Hey you,” she called, waving the man over. “Quick which one is your apartment?” She asked the young man. As the guy she called over approched, Robin said with a flirtatious smile,“Would you be so kind so as to help me move a few things, I’m afraid It might be a bit much.”
Jun watched as the woman waved down a passerby, a little embarrassed at his situation. Hopefully this would serve as a lesson to not drink so much next time. “Oh, my apartment is on the 4th floor of this building.” The man looked like he could probably lift 3 of these at a time. “Wow, thanks. I’d be a little intimidated to ask him myself. I’m sure I’ll get it all cleared out of my place soon. Do you think I could just leave them here on the sidewalk or..?”
Fay did feel a little bit bad that the mans trip had almost jeopardized his camera but she was glad that he’d saved it. “You looked very graceful saving yourself, if it makes you feel any better.” She brushed a hand along her navy pleated skirt and tugged on the bottom of her cream sweater after helping him. Her brunette hair was in an almost perfect bun at the back of head and her brown eyes sparkled with a little bit of mirth. “I’m Fay, it’s lovely to meet you Jun. Why would you get killed if you lost the photos?”
Jun shuffled through the photos in his hand, making sure all were accounted for. He looked back up at her, a small grin tracing his lips. “Oh, these are some proofs I did for my article. I was just going to drop them off at work. I kind of have a deadline for today and wouldn’t have time to reprint these.” He stopped for a moment, hesitating to speak. “Actually, would you mind maybe giving me an opinion. I’m not sure if these really give off the essence I was trying to capture.”
Tenley was the kind of person, that when faced with a task, she would conquer it for better or for worse. She liked a challenge, and she liked to help people - It was a good combination of traits that made her the kind of person one could rely on for help. So, when approached by a man she’d never seen before and asked for help, she of course pulled a dimpled smile at him and nodded. “Sure, I guess I’m not headed anywhere important.” She agreed. “Do I get to know why you need help getting cones out, though? The curiosity is killing me.”
Jun looked down at the cone in his hand, hoping for a sudden flash back of the night before to come swooping in like in the movies, but it didn’t. “I honestly can’t recall exactly,” he began as he motioned for her to follow him. “I vaguely remember lots of alcohol and ridiculous bets among my friends and I.” They made it upstairs and to the door of his apartment when Jun finally realized how weird this was. He just invited a stranger into his home and quickly panicked at the idea that he may seem like a creep. “Oh, um,” he started as he opened his door to show the ten other traffic cones sitting inside. “I’m Jun, by the way. Thanks for helping me out,” he said before heading towards another cone and picking it up.
--A sea of orange stood before Jun as he opened his bedroom door into the living area of his apartment. a small twinge of pain in his head reminding him of his few-too-many drinks from the night before. “Damn traffic cones,” he muttered under his breath before going towards one. They were heavier than he remembered, already feeling the soreness from carrying them. He waddled towards the front door and down the stairs back into the real world. Gasping for breath, he spotted someone walking close by and awkwardly headed to them, cone still in his hands. “Hey, weird question, but would you mind helping me get some of these out of my apartment?”
A crime thriller clutched in her hand, Brooklyn was enjoying her lovely lunch break at the Greenlight Bookstore. She was perched in one of the stores many window alcoves, almost buried in her novel, when a commotion caught the cover of her eye. One of the passersby had tripped spectacularly on a dip in the sidewalk and the way they’d recovered was so ridiculous she couldn’t help but start to giggle. Putting down her book she rushed down the stairs and went outside, helping them pick up their belongings with a smile still on her face. “Oh God, I’m so sorry, I shouldn’t be laughing - I promise you though, from my window it was quite comical.”
Jun kept his focus on the camera before him, his fingers swiftly skimming through all the photos he’d taken today. On his days off his many jobs, Jun liked to photograph as much as he could to keep his skills sharp. Suddenly he felt a wave of panic as his feet betrayed him and his hands flew up releasing his freshly printed photographs and his camera. Everything happened in slow motion as he watched his camera slip from his fingers and his face coming closer to the ground. His dancing reflexes kicked in and he miraculously caught himself and landed on a strange ballet pose. Having a dancing background made him quick on his feet, or so he thought anyway.
He quickly reached for his camera, inspecting it for damages but it was thankfully still in perfect condition. He sighed in relief when he suddenly heard a female approach him. He thought back on the incident and couldn’t help but laugh himself. “It’s totally fine. I’m sure I would be laughing the same if I saw someone stumble and strike a pose.” He watched as she helped him pick up his photographs and offered her a smile. “Thanks, I’d be dead if I lost these photos. I’m Jun by the way and also slightly embarrassed,” he began with a chuckle as he stretched his hand out to her.
“I might actually lose my shit if one more person questions my ability to do my job.” A deep sigh slipped from her lips as she took a seat, her cup of coffee in her hand. “I’m a lieutenant, you know? How dare they question my ability to do my job? This is what you get for working among men, I swear to god.” She was getting more and more worked up by the second, forcing herself to take a deep breath and count to ten. “Sorry, hi, I sort of just interrupted your day, but this seat wasn’t taken and I really needed to sit down, and I have no other excuse.”
Jun looked up from his coffee, slightly confused at the sudden voice in front of him. Her face was unfamiliar but still, Jun offered her a small smile as she took a seat. Before he could speak, words started coming from her again but his mind stayed focused on the word lieutenant. This is what bothered him the most about his English skills. He wasn’t necessarily limited at it, but on occasion words snuck up on him. “Oh, you’re fine. I don’t mind at all,” his accent sounding a little heavier than he liked. “And lieutenant, that’s a military term, correct?” He asked, eyebrow slightly raised and his fingers lightly fidgeting with his coffee cup.
