everything justice knew about the english rose was given to her in whispers, shards of conversation, and the odd tabloid headline. which is to say, she could recognize adelaide on appearance, but it was strange in a context as mundane as this. still, justice sidled up to her with little more in the way of preamble. 

“is this seat free?” she asked, already halfway to sitting.

justice had eyed him casually first – glances every so often while she nursed her drink and slouched in her seat. she’d seen him around, from time to time, most often when one of them was in search or the presence of alec. it was strange, then, to see roman alone.
