I just wanted to share my experience with Got7 because this will be a time that I will never forget.
Fly in NYC: Day 1 Experience at Playstation Theater
July 5, 2016
Everyone knows how much I love Got7. When I heard that Got7 was going to be in New York, I jumped at that opportunity because ever since I’m going to school in New York, I’ve been able to drive down more often and I live in Maine. That is a 5 hour drive to New York but it was all worth it. I was so close to not getting tickets but thanks to my friend, Jesse, I was able to score P3 tickets.
First things first, I want to say that Got7 was so genuine. They were so sweet and caring throughout the whole concert. I admit I was so afraid that I wasn’t going to see all of them together on stage because of Jaebum’s back and Youngjae’s sickness, but all 7 of them performed together during their first time in New York. This experience just made me love them more than I already do. They cared about our safety and it was coming from them. They noticed how crowded it was and asked politely for us to take a few steps back so no one would get hurt. It really warmed my heart to see them so caring about us fans even though they may be tired and jet lagged from the whole tour in general. They looked so happy to be in New York even if it was their first time. It just made the whole experience incredible.
My outfit. I dressed to show that I was a Mark girl because everyone knows that guy with the deep voice and high pitched laughter is my bias. Mark has been my bias ever since I saw him in the early early days. My eyes and heart went directly to him. My shirt was handmade by yours truly. On the front it says Got7 in their logo font. Then on the back it had Tuan on the top in Got7′s logo font like a jersey and instead of 93, which is the year that he was born, I opted with Got7′s logo. All black lettering on a white shirt cut into a slight crop top and cut off the sleeves. I also wore high waisted shorts with black high top converse. I had a red flannel tied around my waist and I was wearing a black bandana tied at the top like a bow. If it doesn’t scream Mark, I don’t know what will.
And yo, squad goals. My friend Ati, Jesse, and I were matching and it wasn’t even planned. We were all wearing flannels tied around our waists. Ati and I had Got7 shirts and wore converse. Jesse and I had headbands. All wearing shorts and crop tops. Squad can’t get any better than this.
Let’s talk about waiting in line, its usually not a fun thing, but with the right people, it can be just as fun. I was lucky to have Ati and Jesse, go to the concert, save me a spot, as well as meeting new friends there. Even though we got separate since one friend had P2 tickets, we all made it worth while by talking about biases, other experiences, and life in general. People selling merch came by and I got this Mark and Jaebum card. Mark’s card was the most adorable thing and Jaebum’s was from If You Do. A new friend that I made became almost like my spirit animal. She was so hyped even though she wasn’t able to go to the actual concert. SubKulture was also filming a documentary type thing for Got7′s concert and she did a chant that got everyone hyped. “When I say Got you say 7! Got! 7! Who do we love? GOT7!” It was such a great feeling to see everyone cheer, but that’s not the best thing that happened in line.
It was about two hours before they were letting P3 ticket holders into the venue. One of the people I met were talking and she spotted an orange wristband laying flat on the ground near the restaurant the line was in front of. The orange wristband that were for P2 hi touch ticket holders. We started talking about how the staff must’ve dropped it. We started pointing it out to our group of friends in line and still no one picked it up. Then the whole line started to notice and talk about it even then, no one picked it up. That’s when I asked, “Is no one gonna pick it up?” Ati was telling me to go pick it up and I shrugged and said okay, then went to go pick it up. When I got back in line, people were telling me that I had serious guts to go pick it up without getting caught by staff. But I just scored a free hi touch!
Even though I had P3 tickets, I was determined to get to the front because Got7 means so much to me and I really just wanted to see them up close. First I started off in the pit on the right side to meet up with a few of my friends that I was standing in line with. Then we merged over to the right side and let me tell you that it was the best decision ever. Why? Because it was Mark’s side so I got to see a lot of him. I am such trash even though I love all of the boys. But not only that I got to inch my way to the front so I was really close to them. Before the concert even started, it was so great to hear the fans singing along to all the songs playing to pass time since the concert started at 7:30, almost right on the dot.
It would be an understatement to say that the pit was crowded. Like oh my god, I am a small person. I am 5′2 and I was squished, pushed around, trying to make my way to the front without losing my friend for the first half hour of the concert. If you’ve ever been to Playstation Theater in NYC, then you know what I’m talking about, but if you don’t know, it’s kind of a small venue, which made things intimate, but still crowded with the pushing. It did ease up a bit after Got7 was worried about our safety and asked us to step back. But there were times where it got super intense, but nonetheless, it was all worth it because Got7 put on an amazing show where everyone was hyped. They were happy to be on stage and I was happy to see all 7 of them on stage together, being the greatest that Got7 is. There was so many things great about this concert that it would take me forever to list them all.
But Dab7 made an appearance and honestly, I don’t know how I feel about it. I’m not one to follow trends, like dabbing, as much, but seeing them all so happy playing around and dabbing either during songs, after songs, or during their speeches, made it so natural like they weren’t putting on a staged show but more like a natural performance. One in particular, Jaebum, always seem to regret doing stuff like this, the whip, naenae, dabbing, but he dabbed several times during Follow Me and I just.. it made it. It made almost the whole night because he was happy. I love seeing the boys happy. It shows that they are sincere.
I love Got7 when they are being playful the most. During the concert when they were teasing each other and goofing around made me smile nonstop. A few of my favorite parts of the concert were Mark noticing me from how loud I screamed his name, no matter how far I was from barrier, which wasn’t too far because I was in the third row from the stage. Youngjae’s english and starting to sing Empire State of Mine and everyone joining along making his smile so brightly like the ball of sunshine that he is. Got7 reminding everyone that Yugyeom and Bambam are 19 after doing sexy dances. Hearing Mark’s high pitch laughter during the game they had planned for us. I love hearing his laugh. And Jackson mentioning that their gonna come back soon and perform in a bigger venue, calling it a court/stadium. Just to name a few.
Now onto the best highlight. The hi touch. This was my first ever hi touch and even though it had to be quick, I am not disappointed. I finally met up with Jesse again after the concert and we went to go take our seats, waiting for the hi touch to start. Our voices were like gone and our appearance was a mess. During the concert, my flannel was slipping and I had to take my bandana off to let it hang around my neck and my hair had a giant knot. Thank her for having a brush on her. We were the third row for hi touch which was great because we got to meet them early and they weren’t tired from standing there so long.
The line was Mark, Yugyeom, Bambam, Jackson, Jaebum, Youngjae, then Jinyoung. My plan was to tell everyone that I loved them since I didn’t have much time to say anything since SubKulture rushes way too much even though they got P1 done and over with. When I saw that Mark was first, I almost passed out. I felt like I wasn’t able to breathe. I gave Mark two high fives with both my hands, but the second high five I held his hand for a quick second to tell him that I loved him. Oh lord, his hand was so soft and I just wanted to hold it forever. He gave me such the brightest smile and laughed cutely, melting my heart. I almost passed out right then and there. Yugyeom was next and he was being such an adorable maknae, I love his smile. Dabbing with Bambam was a thing. He chuckled and said thank you. Jackson was the sweetest. Instead of my going to hold his hand, he took my hand instead and my heart was racing. His hand grip was firm but it was also gentle, like its the feeling you get when you get a really good hug from someone you love. He looked at me with gentle eyes and I told him to stay healthy and he said, “thank you. you too.” Jaebum, oh my god, he gave me his shy eye smile and laughed shyly like he didn’t know what to do or say. He was so freaking cute. Youngjae is such a ball of sunshine. When I told him that I loved him, I told him to stay healthy as well and he gave me the same response as Jackson with his bright sunshine smile. I just smiled like an idiot. Jinyoung, thank the lord he wasn’t being a savage because I held his hand too and told him that I love him. And he just smiled so cutely. All the boys were cute. I swear that I can’t.
Jesse and I were leaving the venue at this point and right as we got outside, we started crying. Like almost to the point of bawling our eyes out. We understood that a lot of people got to meet Got7 that night, but we never though that it would happen to us. I never thought it would happen to me honestly because of everything that goes on in my life that puts me down. Seeing them in concert and meeting them just made my life and want to continue on even if the world becomes dark.
This is something I would never forget because not only all of this happened, but Got7 means the world to me. They are one of the few bands that really reached out to me that made me fall in love with them. Not only that, but my depression and anxiety likes to hold me back for a lot of things, mostly being in crowds like the pit in concerts. Got7 was a night where I overcame my anxiety and I had a good time. I had a wonderful time. I was not disappointed by the outcome. Got7′s actions and interactions are real. They are incredible. They’ve made my birthday the greatest ever this year even though my birthday was a day before the concert. It’s safe to say that they’ve changed my life for the better. I’m so glad that I’ve found them and I’m so insanely happy that I got this opportunity to see and meet the 7 guys that made such an impact on my life.
