did you cook at the dance competition?

uhmmmm kind of? i don't honestly feel confident in saying yes or no for like 3 reasons:

the scoring system of this comp is 40% choreo, 40% execution, 20% performance, which totally sucks because that means that no matter how well i present/carry myself on stage, the judges can literally say um yeah no i didn't like that choreo and then give me a bad score. which personally I think is stupid as fuck bc i do not make my own choreography, and anyone can have perfect choreo and still be absolute shit.

one of the studios i competed against enters their dancers at lower levels than they should be at. on purpose. so i competed against other kids in my age group who should've been 2 levels above! naturally i didn't place against them because they are at a higher skill level. unfortunately, the studio is known for their purposeful misplacement but has never faced consequences.

my old studio was at this competition, and seeing those people literally made me feel awful (i'm talking sick to my stomach, almost didn't go on stage for my solo, shaking, full panic attack). haven't seen these people in a few years so it was just a very big deal cuz of all that happened with them. this stressed me out a shit ton so i didn't have a good sense of myself or what was going on when i was on stage. did my dances tho so... yay?

[bonus: 90% of my stupid ended up getting norovirus! I was doing my best to avoid anyone who was sick, but literally one of my group members AND my studio director ended up with it so it was hard to avoid. luckily i stayed healthy (which idfk how cuz i literally have the worst immune system ever) but in the moment it was a bit stressful to dodge.]

so the scoring+awards say no, but based on the circumstances i would say yes.

ANYWAYS-

awards: tap duo ~ 1st overall in our division!!!!!! (we are undefeated so far 👀) lyrical group ~ 1st in the category solo and jazz group did not place at all (not surprising)
