Cloudjumper watched the Night Fury, amused. He had grown used to the fact that Toothless’ antics never failed to entertain. 

So what was he up to today? He chirped to say hello, settling on his haunches and letting the rising morning sun warm him up. The previous night had been cold.

His trill sounded almost offended, but based on his expression, he was far more amused than anything.

He shuffled his claws through the snow and shook out his head, lilting incredulously, as if to say, “what did I do??”

I don't quite like how things ended in HTTYD 3. I don’t agree.

While I can understand for the most part how Hiccup, Astrid, Eret, etc. were able to say “letting them go is what’s best for them and their safety,” and how it applies to Cloudjumper too, inherently so given the fact that he is a dragon, it’s a very different case with Valka and Cloudjumper if we’re looking at them as individuals.

While Hiccup, Astrid and the others sort of chose their dragons, deliberately made the choice to coexist with them, ride them, and let them inhabit Berk, the circumstances for the characters in question are vastly different. 

The roles are reversed. Cloudjumper took Valka to live with dragons. Not the other way around. While Valka was never pro-killing dragons, but unless Cloudjumper took her like he did, would she have taken that step herself? The step Hiccup took in the first movie?  Dragons don’t and didn’t need humans. In any capacity. But Cloudjumper saw something in Valka and saw reason to take her. They aren’t just dragon and rider. Their bond is different, more cultivated, the longest of any human-dragon bond/relationship shown in the movies.

I don’t think Cloudjumper would’ve been able to let Valka go so easily. Or the other way around, too. I can’t imagine that was easy for either of them, and I don’t necessarily think it fits their characters and their backgrounds. So I’m gonna treat that bit of the movie like it may or may not have happened.

The dragon leered over her, an air of calm about him. He sighed in dissent. No, she hadn't hurt him.

Cautiously, he allowed a dexterous claw to extend from beneath his wing, to smooth back a strand of icy blonde hair from her face. He blinked once; twice, his pupils returning to their normal size when he felt at ease. Cloudjumper was prepared to save her or himself from harm, or to keep the room from collapsing, but thankfully it hadn’t come to that.

The Stormcutter settled on his haunches and exhaled gently, beginning to warble. It almost sounded musical, yet it was barley audible. Perhaps she wouldn’t have anymore nightmares if she knew he would be there- watching.

The dragon mustered a shrug, reveling in the positive reaction from the new Chief at his find.

At Hiccup’s last request, he nodded, rumbling amiably.
