She relaxes against the wall of the room. The squad should have evacuated by now, leaving her as the only operative remaining on the field. Escaping now was all but futile, feeling nothing more than would be akin to a pincushion. Bolts littered her body like a canvas, leaving the slightest twinge to bring excrusiating pains with it. Seven shots that she couldn’t remove, lest she bled out further.
There was slight relief knowing that Reunion would soon rush up the stairs to this abandoned building. Her suffering wouldn’t be long before they would come here and snuff whatever life remained in her aching body. Yet her face turns pale, as if a ghost had burst through those doors before her. She bites her lips, only capable of mouthing one word over and over again. This woman, she’s not suppose to be here! The mouse should have left with the rest of them already!
‘Why?... Why?... Why?... Why?! Why?!’
Guilt floods over her, knowing her own selfishness was the reason this one had stuck around. There were other escape plans, but this one ran the greatest success with the least amount of casualties. This was the most optimal outcome by all accords, but she hadn’t accounted for that one thing. Emotions. They were unpredictable and wild, driving people to do insane acts. There was no forethought to who she might affect, she only acted. What was she suppose to do!? They all would have died otherwise!
"I-I’m not leaving you here!"
The first declaration she hears upon opening the door. She truly fucked up, hadn’t she? Watching the other, tears well up in her eyes as the sound of boots resonate towards her. She had lost herself to when she prepared to die. Now she was finding herself in these words on conviction. Her spirit had died, and now it was being born renew. She was back to zero now, but that was okay.
She assits scavenger, allowing herself to be picked off the floor. Her body is screaming in pain to lay down and wait for relief from this life. Such damnable thoughts are staunched by force. Instead she pries her arm away from her ally, reaching in a quiver to load in another bolt. Every movement rings out as her bones grind against the ammunition that has pierced her. There’s no time to cry over the pain, nor any need to. Her legs are quivering, her vision hazed. Despite it all she manges to turn towards her partner, as calm and soothing as ever.
“Ahaha.... I’m sorry if I caused you grief. Let’s go back home together, ‘kay?~”
A soft smile teases at her lips, almost as if nothing was wrong now. This one had responded with all over her will to rescue her, so it was only fair to pay in kind. Everything is wracking, each heart beat causing wave of nausea to wash over. This vessel of a body wasn’t durable, but she’s endured more violent storms than this. She wasn’t an expert in fighting, nor a master of assassination. Nonetheless, she had always been a survivor. She had faced the threat of death long before joining Rhodes Island. Never had she once faced it with arms oustretched, but always arms in had. So there’s no excuse for trying now!
“You don’t think... the Doctor will be mad at us for being late right?”
A light jest, to ease herself. There was at least twenty more Reunion members that would rush in at any moment. What the outcome would be was anyone’s guess. The only thing she could cling onto now was her resolve and absolute faith in Scavenger. This fight, come hell and high water, they’ll ride out their journey to it’s end.
