Daken’s job was soul-crushing, and that was saying a lot, since Daken has no soul to speak of. Despite the very nature of the job (doing bad things to get information for bad people to use for bad things), there were a few benefits. Good pay for something Daken was good at. Access to all sorts of information, as well as who wanted what information. Most if it was base level gossip, nothing that helped Daken more than being leveraged in certain situations, but there was one that caught his attention, carefully placed on top of everything else like it was meant to be there.
Romulus. Somebody was asking all sorts of people about his current whereabouts, and those people turned to them in order to get the. And unfortunately, Daken probably knew the answer. Probably around Italy, if not back in the wilderness of Northern Canada. But the person asking was doing an absolutely horrible job concealing his appearance, seeing that most of the people approached had instantly recognized him. Johnny. Johnny and his self-aggrandizing glory, was going to go get himself killed to try and salvage Daken’s reputation, like he was some meek little puppy that needed saving from someone stronger. Johnny should know better than anyone what Romulus did to Daken, and how this was Daken's fight to win. Not some guy with some savior complex implemented in his brain, who decided not to heed a single warning Daken had given him.
Daken was silent with rage as he took the case, heading straight to Johnny’s place. He was completely quiet the entire trip to the apartment, the blood rushing in his ears tuning out everything else around him. Up a few flights of stairs, to the correctly labeled door. Daken pounded on the door with a closed first before yelling.
“I’m giving you three seconds to open up before I kick the door down, Torch. One, two, thr-” He was cut off as the door swung open. “Are you fucking dumb?” Daken said, shoving the file in Johnny’s stupid face. “If you have a death wish, I can just put you out of your misery now.”
