Vox and Love
I think it is crucial for my iteration of Vox to have fallen in love with Alastor and I'll tell you why.
Vincent had never known the feeling when he was alive, he'd never found anyone important enough or meaningful enough to spark the feeling : didn't respect them enough to let them have it. Even his parents, migrant workers from England who worked for cents just to get by, how could he when the big bright beautiful American Dream was laid out right before his eyes.
Chalk it up to the shaken confidence, the fact he no longer had the 'home feild' advantage, whatever the case Hell brought a new softness to Vincent. Like a new fish introduced to a florigen tank filled with aggressive species, he had to be smart, play the long con, lest he be gobbled up by the stronger lot.
He attached to Alastor like a Remora, lapping up what little power the radio demon left behind. And it's in doing this Vincent found himself getting closer to Alastor, observing as the deer seemingly took what he wanted by way of cunning word or violence ; it's that drive that fuels a new found respect in Vincent, one he's never felt for anyone before. Alastor is everything he wants to be and while a different version of himself might get rid of the competition, he simply can't. Al is too valuable, too powerful to ever think of destroying ; and the reality is he couldn't even if he had the chance. Instead Vincent is forced to sit in his feelings, let them fester ; a task he's never had to complete before. This is what leads to those complicated feelings of love, the respect and admiration for someone never before felt. Finally there was someone Vincent felt was above him ; and there was no other outlet than adoration. When he's rejected it's earth shattering, heart wrenching and damn near soul crushing. Alastor isn't only rejecting the business proposal ; he's rejecting HIM ; using all the words he knows Vincent hates, words he'd never let anyone living use against him without robbing them of their lives. As someone who'd never experienced love how then might you imagine this soul adjusts to heart break? Infatuation sours, turns to loathing ; resentment. This hostility extends to himself as well ; how could he have been so stupid? To let someone else hold such reign over him, to let them have that power? Vincent murders that part of himself, the fragile ; the innocent ; the hopeful. He executes it again and again when it dares to rear it's ugly head ; when it threatens any relationship in the coming future. He'll keep them at arms reach, even when he knows it's a lie. Because he'll never let someone hold power over him like that again. He'll never allow himself to be hurt, to be tormented and mutilated in such a way ever again.
side bar . . . .
....also i really really want Alastor to have given him the name Vox. I dont know where it could fit, but something something, a person knowing your human name gives them power over you, Alastor knows this and tells him to change it. Maybe he calls him 'Boxxy' or something like that and Vox is so unoriginal he just changes the first letter who knows.
