But all things must come to a head. Whether good or bad. Each facet of our lives is built on feeble wooden planks that bend and bow with the pressure of time. It had taken long enough, but finally the board would snap.
And it all started with pie.
“You know, Laney, I shouldn’t have to tell you to make yourself useful. You’ve been with us over a month.”
I stared at her over the thick black rims of my glasses, wondering just how foul the cauldron she’d popped out of must have been. “Yeah, Chelle,” I mocked, “I can tell my preferred route to Starbucks is no longer efficient. Back to the drawing board on that one. Let’s see, if the train leaves the station at exactly 12:00…”
“Don’t get snarky Kerrigan.” She said, turning to her plate. “Wait. Is this key lime? I asked for French Silk!”
“Well they didn’t have French Silk, Princess, so Your Highness got key lime.”
“Ugh.” She pushed the plate away in disgust. And really, there’s no need to punish perfectly good pie. “Can you do anything right?”
