A nurse walks into his partitioned room and Derek holds up his hand. He’s not sure if the bleeding has died down -- terrified to take the towel away from his palm. If he looks, he’s sure he’ll pass out. The entire drive to the emergency room came with a bit of wooziness. It wasn’t the first time he’s cut himself behind the line. The passionate debate on the best Oreo flavor distracted him and now he sits in Monleon Memorial bleeding out ( probably ) and hungry for birthday cake Oreos. “Do y’all offer discount cards if we visit often enough? Because I’d be very interested in enrolling in that program.”
