"Is there anybody there? Does anybody care? Does anybody see what I see?". These questions elucidate the problems at the heart of the schizoid conflict, in contrast to the narcissistic and borderline patients. A narcissistic patient is constantly asking or demanding that everybody else see what he or she sees (one mindedness, merger, fusion). The borderline patient is constantly asking "does anybody care?" and will adjust his or her life in whatever fashion it is necessary to guarantee that there is somebody who cares. The schizoid patient is first and foremost asking the question "is anybody there?".

Walls

I stare up to the sky,  Hoping for the eventual answers I know wont come. And when your song rings out, The stars spelling out your name, I know I cannot ever forget Nor ever stop the regret. I know somewhere behind this blank canvas, this darkness that serves as a wall for all those To afraid to dream bigger than themselves, To scared to go farther than the moon, And to anxious to look past the mirror, There lies some greater meaning. But for now, All I see is your eyes gazing into mine, And as I stare into the mirror, Leaning close enough for the lines to double, I wonder what on earth you could have seen That made you stay, only to run away again. Because all I see right now is hurt, Blue lines stretching away from blackness, Reaching for something better, Something worthwhile. Because right now, All I see are broken edges, Pulling away from a darkness planted there. The tender innocence you spoke of barely existing, Replaced only by walls deeper than those The universe set there.
