nothing will ever happen the way you want it to
Today was a pretty good day up until the drive home just now. I woke up bright and early to return to work for three days before I am officially no longer employed there (because I’m taking on an externship at the bankruptcy court in downtown next semester and don’t have time for both). I definitely did not have enough sleep last night. And despite that, time went by fairly quickly at work. I suppose it was because I kept myself busy, going from project to project. I was actually turning things out pretty quickly, even my supervisor mentioned it.
Throughout the day though, what really made it awesome, were the gifts that the firm, some of the partners, some associates, some of the assistants, and my supervisor gave the law clerks. It was literally one after the other. And they weren’t cheap gifts either. I got a $20 Chipotle gift card, chocolate, a gift card for Coffee Bean, a crisp $50 bill from the firm, a scented candle, chocolate, donuts, a goodie bag, oh and did I mention chocolate? I later found out that today was “gift day” at the firm. It was a really nice surprise.
I also exchanged gifts with my secret santa today. We actually ended up picking each other’s names. I got him a set of shot glasses that look like mason jars from Kitson. He got me three cup of noodles, a pack of Red Bull, and a pack of Starbucks shots . . . a finals package . . . at the end of finals. I have to say I am a little disappointed but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. I know so little about them and they know so little about me. But I at least got him something cool. I literally just want the mason jar shot glasses instead lol.
So I left work at about 5:00 P.M. today and ended up getting home at 6:45 P.M. Traffic was insane. It was such a crazy greeting back to working at the firm in Encino and not leaving early to get to class. It took my about one and a half hours just to get to the exit I usually take and about fifteen minutes just to turn off the exit because the light wasn’t working so everyone had to take turns. Then, as I neared my house, a police car was blocking the street, so I had to take a detour. I am so tired out from today.
I was hoping to come home and just chill, maybe grab something to eat with my S.O. but as I told him about my day he just made it that much more tiring. I was complaining about google maps because it told me that the exit was yellow when it should have been dark red. So I said I should have just used Waze. And in my tired, stressed out state, he pushes back and tries to correct me: “You know google bought Waze, right? They’re the exact same thing.” And then he laughs. So I told him, “Stop. I’m really not in the mood to be annoyed right now.” Because I hate it when he’s pedantic like that. I’m trying to vent, not have a conversation. So he stops laughing, pauses for a few seconds, and walks to his computer without saying anything. And that’s how he made my day, a little worse.
Round 2, tomorrow, I guess.
Just My Luck
And I'm not talking about the movie. I'm looking into a tech school. Sanford Brown; and now the schools are being closed down. Like I said Just my luck.
