Bardili: First Travelogue XII
1703. Febr. - den 13ten - Leipzig. - Meissen.
1703. Febr. - 13th - Leipzig. - Meissen. - 14th. 15th.
At daybreak one behooved themselves for the journey again and in total silence passed by Weißenfels whereat the Carnival had just begun and one didn't want to stay for this exact reason. Despite one wasn't at all minded to stay here, it however seemed, as if a little mishap wanted to arrest Them, as just in front of the town the one wheel and shortly after the axle went to pieces, But disregarding this They continued their journey, seated themselves in Their servants' carriage, who in the meantime had themselves hauled after them to Rippach next to the baggage on the three-wheeled carriage. From there they came towards Lützen, therefore Merseburgian, got out there to see the area, whereat King Gustav Adolph fell in the battle held there, and further without incident towards Leipzig: While the carriage was being repaired the Princes delectated themselves in this pleasant and beautiful town, which's neat- and cleanliness, nice orders, splendid buildings and the lovely dealings of the people are so charming that rarely a traveler can leave the same as jolly as he can visit it. From Naumburg until here the Princes had to tolerate taking their place for the night mostly on straw, because they chose this before the dangerous and indecent beds. One could however not enjoy the local commodities as well as the comforts of the town as It deserved, but hurried, as soon as the carriage was back in order, the same night away to Wurzen, and from there to Meißen. Here they viewed the high castle and the within situated rarities, but especially the beautiful paintings, the cathedral, where the old Electoral burial, the tower with the transparent stone roof through which it however doesn't rain.
