Visited our clinic today for a scan. All ok, although I’m going to need monitoring due to hypertension.
Oh yes. I never mentioned it. Two weeks ago, a few days before my bleeding incident, I realised my blood pressure was high, around 140/95 and the like. It’s been slightly elevated for a while before the pregnancy, too, but this type of readings were new.
Called the public healthcare maternity clinic, they got me an appointment for the coming Monday (it was Friday then). I didn’t want to wait so I straight up called our IVF clinic and got an appointment for the same day. My doc was unavailable but another experienced doctor had a look and said all was ok with the baby but that the systolic pressure needs to stay below 90. So he put me on Albetol, a drug used to lower blood pressure during pregnancy, as it is a sign of possible pre-eclampsia, although that only starts later on in the pregnancy.
So I’ve been on that for 2 weeks and my blood pressure has looked normal 125-130/75-80. Today, the doc said I should start taking a small dose of aspirin daily, as a precaution now that I’m at a risk for pre-eclampsia.
Yesterday I fell on my side and strained my back.
So, being pregnant at 40 seems to be different from being pregnant when you are 36.
