The Sticks and the Stray
Blythe, Nebraska: so small that it consists only of a single intersection, a post office, and a church that doubles as a town hall. Surrounded by steep hills and endless cornfields, there was nothing particularly remarkable about the place. Except Y/C. To Jude Miller, son of Blythe’s local hero sheriff and model-turned-housewife, Y/C was the only outstanding thing about his jerkwater town.
The best of friends inseparable from birth. From pre-K playdates all the way to the moment they flipped their tassel and tossed their caps into the air, Jude and Y/C had been in it together. Both holding a certain resentment for their town and their places in it. Places that they would have to one day assume as they grew older. It was a truth universally understood that Jude and Y/C would one day realize their feelings, marry, and produce a basketfull of children to become farmers or teachers or whatever it was one did in Blythe. It was only natural, after all. As much as Jude had scrunched his nose at the comments from parents and peers alike, a part of the naive boy had always believed it too.
Until, one year after high school graduation, Y/C left. She had packed her life up into a suitcase and with it had taken Jude’s heart.
Jude remains in the town they both not-so-secretly despised. He resumes his father’s role of sheriff after he passes on and lets time change him. He takes his place in Blythe but contrary to the popular belief of his youth, Y/C does not stand beside him. He thinks of her sometimes, when the rain outside rouses a muddy childhood memory or the smell of lilacs passes under his nose. But she’s gone in some big city somewhere, doing the great things he knew she was always destined for.
And all it takes for them to meet again is a little rain, a subsequent speeding ticket, and two decades.

Rule Seven
I can write a lot in my replies (And a lot of it can be unnecessary detail) but don't feel pressured to match my length! Just, please, try to give me something more than two sentences to work with. I don't typically enjoy writing short replies, but I understand muses can be fickle things.

I don't enjoy pregnancy threads or writing children so I, typically, will steer clear of those types of threads. If our muses have been in a long relationship (and we have been writing partners for a while as well) I may make an exception, but don't come in expecting babies.
