Prometheus is a fun ship name. In Greek mythology it’s the name of a Titan that created humanity from clay, and stole fire from the gods to give it to the humans.

However, Prometheus has come to be associated with the dangers of scientific exploration - in this case, “exploring the brain” very likely, and unintended consequences of doing such. 

On another fun note, Frankenstein is called “The Modern Prometheus”. Frankenstein = Franklin, Maura’s claimed surname. The “shadow” in dreams that was talked about earlier is also said to sometimes appear as a Frankenstein-like figure. (For those curious, there are plenty of essays regarding Carl Jung and Frankenstein available online, but it won’t really enlighten us any further on the plot of this show other than what has already been established - a quest for knowledge gone wrong, Maura’s father being her shadow self.)

So, here’s the most fun part of it all: Frankenstein is often erronously used to refer to the monster rather than the creator. The same way Maura is referred to by her creator’s name (Henry, the father) by her brother.

Two significant things here:

In episode 1 Ángel refers to himself as a wolf and Ramiro as a sheep. Now we see a painting of the two above.

This is interesting because Ramiro is challenging Angel’s belief. Dark, too, had similar dilemmas. Everything is cyclical, nothing can change, nothing will change. Our protagonist in aforementioned show constantly tries to fight the inevitable, which ends up causing the inevitable. Ramiro’s choice here, too, doesn’t end up changing anything - for now, at least. It seems to be a core philosophy for the show creators, hence why a lot of inspiration seems to stem from Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud, and Arthur Schopenhauer.

It’s the ultimate irony again, that Eyk’s love for the sea (water) causes his wife to set the house on fire.

Carl Jung had this to say regarding water and alchemy:

Water is the commonest symbol for the unconscious. The lake in the valley is the unconscious, which lies, as it were, underneath consciousness, so that it is often referred to as the “subconscious,” usually with the pejorative connotation of an inferior consciousness. Water is the “valley spirit,” the water dragon of Tao, whose nature resembles water- a yang in the yin, therefore, water means spirit that has become unconscious.
