When pretty ladies, there will be insta-moments Yeah, this happens everywhere. And most certainly in the Philippines with an abundance of philippinas like these. The old fortress wall and and fortifications here framing the ladies was the border between Manila proper and the suburban towns during the Spanish occupation from 1571. It was the seat of the spanish governor and administration, and consider the capital of spanish culture and education in East-Asia until the Phillipinos took their country back in the revolution of 1898. The area was heavily shelled during the battle of Manila in 1945, when a unit of the IJN refused to follow orders and leave the city peacefully and in order. Drop down gorgeous! First view close up of the St. Vitus Cathedral is massive. Walking in the Praha Castle main gate and then out of the arches meeting this wall of a building is breathtaking. St. Vitus Cathedral, or the Metropolitan Cathedral of Saints Vitus, Wenceslaus and Adalbert since 1997, is the main seat for the catholic church in the Czech Republic. It is the largest church within the Praha Castle on Hradcany hill. The gothic cathedral is the third church for the patron saint of dance and entertainment on this location. The first was a romanic rotunda built in the early 900s. The second a romanic cross church built a 150 years later. This latest version got its foundation in 1344CE, but it took until 1929 to finish it. The cathedral is 124 meter long and 60 meter wide. The front towers shown here are 82 meters tall, but the main tower is 102 meter tall. A total of seven church bells is installed in the church. St. Vitus is one of the oldest mythical saints in the catholic church, a popular legend turned into a saint. It is a very popular saint in eastern Europe, because its name in slavic languages is Sveti Vid. That is close to the older religion and their god of light, abundance and war Svetovid. When Christianity took dominance in most regions, using this sort of modern day PR-spin was a useful tool of many to make locals convert. Wenceslaus was the posthum declared first king and protective saint of the country, and the founder of the first St. Vitus church. Van Gogh-house wall exhibition Interesting details and art is everywhere in the city centre of Bratislava. The van Gogh-house in the shadow of the St. Martin Cathedral is one to stop by. And do it in the evening. The house is old and a bit off, but the window openings are filled with paintings in he style of the great dutch painter Vincent von Gogh. In the soft yellow colours of sunset, it ads a certain mood and gamuth to the exhibition and buildings around. And there are several van Gogh inspired paintings around the downtown area. Lovely hotel with a castle in the backyard and tramstop nearby The history of trams in Bratislava dates back to 1895, and they have always been electric. Nowadays they play a vital part together with the trolleybus and trains to make the city work. Almost 200 000 commutes into the city for work every day, increasing the population with 40 percent. It would be impossible to think this lively city without the public transport. The tram system in Bratislava has been greatly modernised since I visited. New trams, with larger capacity and comfort, reopening of the tram tunnel under the Castle Hill, and extension into the CBD on the Petržalka side of Danube river are among the upgrades These 60 new trams freight up to 45 000 ppl per day per carriage, a huge improvement. The trams serves 8 lines with 152 stops, in a network stretching 40 kilometers. Lovers in the night, Old Town Bratislava The Old Town of Bratislava is a nice and compact version of a classic European medieval city, nicely situated under the former Royal castle on the high hill, on the north side of the mighty european river Donau/Danube. It is a miniature of the prettiest capital city in Europe, Praha/Prag in the Czech Republic. The city history mirrors that of an important Central European city, being the crowning city of the Hungarian kingdom, an imperial favourite of the Austrian-Hungarian empire, an important river port in the czechoslovakian republic and now a capital of the modern Slovakia republic. It is a short trip from Vienna in Austria, and in my opinion a main target for anyone wanting to see these to capitals in one. For one, the schnitzels are better here, and the local beer also. The old town is easier to get around, and less destroyed than in Vienna. The shopping is good with better prizes. And if the city tires you out, it is easier to find peaceful parks and shorter distance to lesser urbanised areas.
