(Taraxacum officinale)

Leaves, flowers, and roots are edible and used in salads, teas, and wines.

Rich in vitamins (A, C, K) and minerals (iron, calcium, potassium).

Provides early food for pollinators like bees.

Ritualistically: resilience, transformation, and hope

The most universal practice involves blowing on a dandelion seed head to send intentions into the universe. If all seeds fly off in one breath, your wish is said to be granted. Drinking dandelion root tea before bed or meditation is traditionally used to enhance psychic powers, prophetic dreams, and second sight. Dandelion is a potent herb for calling upon ancestors or spirits. Placing a hot cup of dandelion infusion by your bedside is a common "Witch Tip" to invite communication while you dream. Because dandelions can grow through cracks in concrete, they are used in spells to gain the strength to overcome challenges or to "bloom where you are planted". Dandelion leaves are used in rituals to cleanse negative energy from a space or object. Some traditions suggest burying dandelions on the northwest side of your house to draw good luck and favorable winds.

My personal (very long!) list of Robron highlights from the past 6 months.

Some might call this toxic positivity 😂 but the truth is my year was basically trash, health wise, and without Ryan's return, I don't know what I would have done.

• The wedding crasher

They held the episode back from early release. We saw his shoes. He said "Miss me?" again. There was a punch. Nicking a bottle of champagne. John's nightmare scenario, hehe. Chas' hat. Aaron unable to finish his vows or even remember John's name.

• The bridge

It was beautifully written, filmed and acted. Couldn't have asked for more or better. Robert looked amazing, said some epic lines ("I was always coming back for you, Aaron"), Aaron got to be angry without bring cruel, we got to see that the chemistry was still there as much as it ever was. And the kiss!

• The prison visit

Robert being so happy to see Aaron, even though he was in agony from a beating, and us finding out Robert was out in prison. Aaron's little head tilt! The angst of Robert being told not to come back and agreeing to stay away, until John arrived acting weird. John's visit was even better, with Robert getting to be clever and bitchy (humming the wedding march!) and given a reason to actually go home.

• The photo

Aaron reveals he's had a [folded] picture of hin, Liv and Robert in his wallet for almost 6 years!

• Robert turns up at Aaron and John's

He's so cocky and arrogant, and this is before we know it's mostly just an act, because Robert's broken and damaged...

• Robert's nightmare

Just seeing him clinging to his little sister for comfort!

• The coffee date (that never was)

Their little smiles, the banter, Aaron's breath literally being taken away just from sitting there looking at Robert. Aaron not being able to help himself, telling Robert his roots are there.

• Aaron defends Robert to John

Saying Robert was always amazing with Seb, knowing Robert wouldn't hurt Harry regardless of what John says.

• Robert's breakdown

Another perfect scene, that I never thought we'd ever see the likes of. The acting was amazing, the "coreography" was brilliant, and I watched it so many times. The mirror, the trashing of the room, the box of photos of his old life, the "It's me", the eye contact, Aaron's hands, them falling to the floor together, Robert just letting go...

The rest of August 18

Robert's vulnerability, Aaron's inability to stay away, the chocholate cake incident of 2018. The kisses. The afterglow scene! On Emmerdale! Both of them shirtless in bed in the middle of Robert's trashed room. Touching. Not wanting it to end. John's picture on Aaron's buzzing phone on the floor with their clothes.

• The goodbye

Aaron sitting down with Robert in the pub at his own going away party with his husband and telling Robert that them sleeping together wasn't on Robert and that maybe in another life... "I can't stop loving you in this one" 😢

• Farmbert

What an unexpected joy that was! Robert doing hard graft, making friends, chasing sheep, laughing and wearing overalls! Overalls tied at the waist! T-shirts! Arms! Ross and his little red spade and Matty and Vic.

• Mack

Championing them without even seeing them together! Rubbing John's face it in, taking on Kev. Excellent friend!

• Creepy cottage

Aaron's realisation that John is drugging him, Danny finally getting something to sink his teeth into, acting wise, as Aaron is both terrified, determined and out of it at the same time. Him being desperate to find his best friend.

• The gorge

Robert knows he can't fight and win, but he takes on army vet John anyway, for Aaron. We get to see that Robert isn't the cool, calm, collected, calculating Robert anymore, he's all over the place. He's making a mess of things, but he tries so hard for the love of his life. And afterwards, holding onto lifeless Aaron, saying he doesn't know what to do, screaming out his love and his despair, my god.

• Vic's prison visit

Robert putting into words what we always knew, but never saw him do for Aaron in 2016 with his self harm and his nightmares.

• The hospital visit

Aaron lighting up for just a millisecond just from seeing Robert. Robert holding Aaron's hand and Aaron letting him, just for a moment. Robert respecting Aaron's wish that he leaves, Aaron being disappointed he does. Also, Mack visiting Aaron and showing his true Robron shipping colors.

• The scrapyard

Aaron burning John's stuff, trying to push Robert away, Robert not budging. Just like old times.

• The almost kiss

Aaron going for it, Robert closing his eyes and almost giving in but ultimately stopping himself.

• Aaron stands up to Chas

No words needed, it was just really good to see.

• Robert spends the night

The fact that Aaron asked Robert to stay with him his first night back in the flat, Robert being so torn, but not able to say no. Them being all tentative with each other. Robert trying to do right by Aaron even though he's carrying this massive secret.

• The beer kiss

The close proximity, the t-shirt, Robert's neck leaning into the kiss!

• The fight about Kev

The chemistry is there every bit as much when they fight. It was angsty and awful and very them.

• The unicorn analogy

Loved that Liam is completely and utterly aware of Aaron's very special Robert feelings.

• The vows

Victoria recognising the vows Robert wrote down and threw away, Aaron most definitely recognising them and having an epiphany. "He's not me"!! Aaron initiated kiss! The buttons flying off Robert's shirt, you know I know, Robert wanting to end it with Kev for Aaron because he knows he can't stay away from him. Aaron telling him he doesn't have to. First mutual I love you since 2019 😭 Trying to kiss in public, attempt 1.

• The "honeymoon"

Robert stroking Aaron's hair on the day he's taking Kev to London, not wanting to pack for it. Trying to kiss Aaron in public, attempt 2.

• Returning from "honeymoon"

Robert being honest about Kev wanting to move in, Aaron being open about missing Robert, their absolute happiness at being together again after being apart for a couple of days.

• Pre prison episode

Kev thinking he's the only one who can confort Robert, but in reality Robert is only wanting Aaron. Telling Aaron he needed him! The first hug since 2019.

• The prison episode

It wasn't all we wanted, but we saw a bloodied and beaten Robert crying over Aaron's photo. We got see how excited Robert got when he was meeting his lawyer to talk about an appeal. Robert having taped the torn wedding photo back together... Faith being the one person that cared enough about the two of them to realise they needed to be together. Aaron holding Robert's hand in real time as he told his story. Vic and Aaron promising to be there for Robert.

• The mornings after

Including all of them here, Robert stealing Aaron's toast, sleeping in (feeling safe), them taking turns wearing Aaron's cozy robe, Robert's bare feet

• The second hug

The vulnerability, the care, the smoosh!

• The shooshing 🤫

I mean, what is there to say about that scene? The finger to Aaron's lips, Aaron's smile, Robert's pounce, Chas, Aaron's pushing Robert away, their whole demeanor while Chas was stood there... No notes.

• The Ban - forgot this, had to edit it in

Robert walking right up to Aaron in the café, getting down to his level and "whispering" in his ear (everyone heard). Aaron having a very brief sex ban in place, therefor ignoring Robert's efforts, lol.

• Master criminals

They are the worst at it, but we love them 🥰

• Aaron's car

Robert being terrible at being sneaky, Aaron being disturbed by Robert being a terrible sneak, trying to kiss in public attempt #3. Chas!

• The kiss

Robert being so anxious, Aaron trying to talk him through it, failing, and deciding to just calm him down with a kiss. Trying to kiss in public attempt #4 is a success, and Kev is right there watching!

• Half an hour?

How can anyone see that little exchange and say the chemistry is gone 🤷‍♀️ (It isn't!)

• The sword

Maybe there could have been more blood, and higher stakes. But! We were pretty much told Robron were in the bedroom for hours, and for some of that time Kev sat there listening to them. We had Aaron standing in front of Robert being protective and fearless! Robert stepping between Aaron and a deadly weapon! Aaron mocking Kev for being a tantruming child. "What's his birthday?", "It was always going to be Aaron." 😭

• The trip

Them spending the night at Keeper's, Aaron and Vic being worried about Robert, Robert not sleeping well and still being anxious and scared. Aaron stepping up and being assertive, whisking Robert away, the way Robert used to do for him in the past. Beautiful stuff.

To sum it up, we have gotten callbacks, parallels, new/old lore, iconic new romantic lines, a shift in dynamics and so much more, new people involved with them like Moira, Matty, Mack and Liam. A deeper relationship between Robert and Vic. Affairs! Mates, brothers-in-law, secret boyfriends, husbands-in-spirit. And it's only been 6 months, and I've probably even left some things out.

And we still have Christmas and New Year to go!!

Five years post a world war, the former sailor turned alcoholic PI Link Coutts and his snarky assistant Midna Dahl are tasked by Daphnes Nohansen with finding his missing daughter Zelda, whose disappearance comes following her auction win of an eerie, talking mirror piece. The mirror's strange powers and abilities to open portals to dark realms pits the three against adversaries looking to seize the mirror for their own twisted desires.

When he’d been drafted, nobody asked him if he knew how to swim or if he was any good with machinery. Link simply had all his limbs and a heartbeat, and he could nod on command. That was good enough. And thus, he was quickly reduced, like so many other young men, to his family name and a serial number, and then told, “Congrats, you’re submarine material!”

He turns to Zelda, feeling chilled from all the sweat now. “Can you help me up?” he asks her. “I can’t get my leg unstuck.”

She squeezes his hand. “Link, you’re not stuck. You don’t have a leg to get stuck."

And on the sixth, Link forgets how close to fire he is playing. “Gods, you men are so stupid,” says Midna, unwittingly to the rescue. Partially. “Does no one listen to me?” Link would prefer they don't in this specific instance. Can he just get out of here without being interrogated? Midna’s making it very hard.

Zelda’s mother hates Link’s guts, but Link had thought he and the old man got along. With the chess board between them, Link is currently reconsidering this.

Link glowers at Nohansen. “Zelda gets that same stupid smirk when she thinks she’s got the upper hand,” Link tells him, which sets the old man off again in new bubbles of laughter.

When his laughter finally subsides enough, Nohansen asks him, “I take it, then, that you’re calling it?”

Link throws his hands up.

Zelda's mother hates Link's guts, but hey, at least the old man likes Link.

Link spends his days waiting in the late summer of 1917. He’s got not much else going on, honestly. He can hobble his way down to the park and wait, or he could wait in a bread line, or he could wait at the flat for his next disability and maintenance checks to come. So yep, Link decides that he might as well go and wait somewhere scenic like the park.

Link looks over at Ravio, accusingly almost. “You know that I walk here, sit around for a long time, and yet you judge me for not having anything else to do?” He counters, “I could ask the same of you then.”

Ravio tilts his head to one side. “Ehh…” Ravio hesitates. He sucks on the cigarette. “It’s just a job,” he says vaguely. He looks over at Link and asks, “But hey, you do a lot of waiting yourself, don't you?”

Midna Dahl gets the sense that she is on the precipice of something, feet hanging over the drop precariously. She just doesn't know what, but she can smell it.

"How do you even put up with him?” Midna admits, “It’s definitely not like I haven’t thought about dumping his body off in the river.”

Zelda smiles brightly and says, “Ah, I suppose it’s easy when you’ve known them since forever.”

And Midna just thinks Link and Zelda are frickin' weird. She’s not sure if it’s related to the big something though. “You’re being weird,” she accuses Zelda. Zelda doesn’t even blink when Midna storms by and whips the front door open. “I’m out,” she tells Zelda. As Zelda gives her a quiet “Okay, see you,” Midna snaps, dragging the door behind her, “I’ll figure it out!”

Midna does, but that doesn’t happen for about another year after Link starts coming back stupid late from his Monday talk therapy sessions. That annoys Midna to no end, because she’s over here starving.

Link and Zelda's Paranormal Investigations

It's two in the morning at the Stock Pot Inn, and for some reason Mr. Barten has the bar open. “I think I need to be somewhere else,” Link says at last, and he gets the feeling like he’s echoing that. Hasn’t he said that before? Gotten that feeling?

Stupid déjà vu. Didn’t he get rid of that?

Mr. Barten’s sympathetic expression is a hard slap though. “You always find your way back to her one way or another,” Mr. Barten assures him. He smiles a bit devilishly at Link, and Link can’t help but think there’s something sleekit about it. He doesn’t like it. “She can wait. Don’t you like whisky?” Mr. Barten asks. “You look like a whisky man.”

“As long as it’s without the ‘e’,” says Link.

“Oh, I would never serve you whiskey,” Mr. Barten promises. “I know what regions you like.” Whatever bizarre stupor Link’s in shatters at that, and Link numbly rises from his seat and steps back from the bar. He TOLD Zelda that this better not be some super spooky supernatural crap. Link's had enough of that to last a lifetime.

We elected a president and got an authoritarian. The president's voice crackles through the radio speakers as he makes his announcement: magic has been outlawed.

I’m a walking target so long as I have this wild magic. I am ruled by my fear. I keep my head bowed and hope that nobody notices me as each day passes, and so far my prayers have gone answered. This is the only thing left I have to be thankful for. The president’s motives are not mine to know, but what he wanted was clear, and he’s got it. I live in pure, unadulterated fear with my townsfolk, my co-workers, my neighbors. It’s all the same.

My only respite comes in the form of a mechanical man that's existed for centuries thanks to his magic, but releasing his soul is a daunting task. Especially when the mage that took his original body holds a prominent place in the government and swears Link Coutts killed Hylian Impressionism.

WILD GO

In Progress

They say the heat makes people crazy. Deep in an economic depression, the simmering civil unrest reaches a fever pitch on Summertide in Castleton when the Yiga cause a citywide blackout. When Link offers to accompany Zelda to check on her ailing father, he quickly finds he has more to worry about than the dark when rioters flood the streets and a killer takes advantage of the chaos to make a final sacrifice to the Old Gods.

Zelda gapes at the blackness beyond the window of Romani's. Suddenly it feels like she’s floating in some dark cloud, not high above a city that should be filled with the glow of lights and neon. Five minutes pass, then ten, then fifteen, but no sign of the lights coming back on. The quiet murmur begins to pick up to a light chatter and then to animated talking in the restaurant.

The first was Revali on Summertide. The next was Urbosa on Autumntide. Then on Wintertide was Daruk. Mipha was last on Springtide. Rusl wonders who might be so unlucky to face Calamity tonight. The fierce look in Mipha's little brother's eyes and the way they demanded that somebody DO SOMETHING haunt Rusl even in the waking hours.

(Cercis canadensis)

Flowers: Eaten raw in salads for a citrusy flavor, used as garnishes, in baked goods, or brewed into tea.

Young Pods: Immature seed pods are edible and can be sautéed, pickled, or added to stir-fries. (I haven’t experimented with them yet—Brandon Weston says to harvest when under and inch and a half)

Brewed into teas to treat colds, flu, fevers, congestion, cough, vomiting, and digestive issues like dysentery.

Astringent: Bark used as an astringent for certain ailments.

Flowers are important for bees, while seeds are eaten by cardinals, pheasants, grosbeaks, deer, and squirrels.

“The main magical use of the redbud is the making of ritual tools for calling up the spirits of the dead or the land. Wands are sometimes made out of branches for this purpose as are pendulums from the wood of the tree. The smoke of burning redbud bark is said to be pleasing to the disembodied noses of haints and ghosts. A particularly auspicious shape is a redbud root that forms a natural circle; you see these along creek beds where the water has washed away the soil that used to be around the twisting roots.
