Labour leader under intense pressure to act to prevent more restive MPs from leaving party
I mean yeah, take your time mate. Not like we’re on the bloody clock or anything.
At this point in time, would any of us protest if the EU turned around and said, alright you can have an extension on article 50, but you MUST have a second referendum in the next six months.
Yeah, those who hate the EU would be livid, but they were always going to vote to leave. The rest of us would be fucking grateful that SOMEONE had made a definite decision.
I’ve been thinking today.... if by some bizarre miracle this country does get a 2nd referendum, the People’s Vote as it were, I really think that there should be only two options on it:
Leave on the terms negotiated by the government
Remain a member of the EU
Because not only will having three options, or more, on that potential ballot muddy the waters and lead to inevitable even more crying about “the will of the people” from whichever sides lose (you thought 52% was a narrow margin to decide our future on, wait till you get a 33%/33%/34% split).
But also because no goddamn government anywhere under any circumstances should ever be willing to even countenance the idea of the worst case no deal scenario, let alone offer it as a voluntary fucking option.
This “no deal is better than a bad deal” crap that that stupid woman Theresa May is spouting is idiotic and if she were a remotely responsible Prime Minister she would have ruled out ever letting a ‘no deal’ scenario happen in the first place.

Bercow calls four amendments, including one calling for a second referendum
John Bercow, the speaker, says he is calling four amendments, plus an amendment to an amendment.
They are:
1) Sarah Wollaston’s - calling for an extension to article 50 to allow for time for a referendum on Brexit.
2) Hilary Benn’s - saying next Wednesday should be set aside for a debate that would start the process of allowing MPs to hold indicative votes on Brexit alternatives. There is also an amendment to this amendment, from Labour’s Lucy Powell, changing the timing.
3) Labour’s - saying article 50 should be extended to allow time for MPs to find a majority for a different approach to Brexit.
4) Chris Bryant’s - saying Theresa May should not be allowed to put her deal to the Commons again.
This is HUGE. Even more so, because he didn't select an amendment calling for a third meaningful vote on the PMs deal.

I’m not sure this really helps explain WHY the Labour party just helped defeat the amendment which would have brought a second referendum, but in the interest of sharing as much as possible, here’s Wes Streeting’s letter about it, signed by a number of other MPs.
It’s interesting to note that it’s not signed by Chuka Umuna, who has been a supporter of the people’s vote for quite some time, but I think this is signed by Labour MPs only, and he quit the party a few weeks ago.
If we knew when (or even if) the Kyle/Wilson amendment was being voted on, that’d be a great help.
