It’s been a tremendous week for pitching and we still have the weekend games for more accomplishments. Here’s the line so far:
- CC Sabathia becomes the 17th pitcher to strikeout 3000 batters
- Noah Syndergaard becomes the seventh pitcher to throw a 1-0 complete game shutout and scored the only run on a homer.
-Stephen Strasberg becomes the fastest pitcher (innings pitched) to reach 1,500 strikeouts
- Kyle Hendricks throws a “Maddux” a complete game 4-0 shutout of the St. Louis Cardinals requiring ONLY 81 pitches. Named after Hall of Famer Greg Maddux who for his career threw 13 complete game shutouts with less than 100 pitches thrown. No other pitcher has more than seven of those kind of starts.
