When I first got into the LA Phil, I was 20 and the youngest member of the orchestra. My mom, Lily Mahler Epstein, was in the orchestra too. I tried to fit in with the older members. When we traveled, we had three buses; The Smoking bus, The Half-and-Half which you could smoke or not smoke and The Hospital Bus which was for non-smoking and senior members of the orchestra. I got on the smoking bus and walked to the back to hang out with all of the smokers and keep conversations going; I wasn't even smoking at the time. I tried to keep a low profile with my mom even though she took the hospital bus. Just before we departed, she walked onto the front of the smoking bus and yelled to the back "Jerry dear, don’t forget to make pee pee; it’s a long trip!” I never lived that down and for the remainder of my career, every time we took a bus, I would hear members of the orchestra yell, "Jerry dear, don’t forget to make pee pee; it’s a long trip!” Jerry Epstein’s Stories are all co-written and edited by Rebecca Dru @druified ©2019 Jerry Epstein and Rebecca Dru All Rights Reserved #orchestra #LAPHIL #orchestra #43yearsinthelaphil #mylifeasamusician #mymom #violinist #musician #lovesmusic #storyteller #photographs #portraits #druified #jerryepstein #Violist #classicalmusic (at Japan) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxV4eurAvSR/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=hh7yyhoecu0w
