In the state of Puebla (Mexico), the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín. In the United States it is just a reason to party. Hoist one in honor of General Seguín at your favorite Mexican Restaurant. Yelp says there are 118 in the Birmingham area. Most of them are "Mom and Pop's" like this one - operated by good folks serving good food. If you are lucky enough to have a cool classic car, such as this '62 Chevy, drive it - it'll be more fun.
