brain freeze. I can't see the ball.
The other day I was out playing kick ball with some friends from church. Yes, I said kick ball. Basically it went from a friendly game with friends while the sun was going down to "what the heck were we thinking, I CAN'T SEE THE BALL it's too dark!" Needless to say that game ended about 45 mins after is started. After the game my sister, her friend and I decided to drive to 7-11 for some late night Slurpees. Sounds great right? Wrong. First of all they didn't have any flavors that I wanted so I had to get blue raspberry. No offense to you blue raspberry lovers but it tasted like Robitussin. And on top of that I got a brain freeze. NOT COOL.
Now I know what you are thinking; what does this lovely anecdote have to do with anything. Let me explain.
We all go through life with expectations. We expect to wake up on time for work in the morning, we expect that our car will start every time we want it to or we expect our friends to treat us well. The list goes on and on. Sometimes, however, we run into rode blocks. Much like our lovely game of kickball, was suppose to be a fun, well lit experience. What I have learned is that although having expectations is a natural thing the real harm comes when everything around us goes dark and all of sudden we are running around screaming " I CAN'T SEE THE BALL" To be honest that is what I feel like right now. I have lost sight of the plans that God has placed before me and I have allowed the craziness around me to warp my view.
It's like I had a brain freeze since returning home from summer, ( see what I did there). It is so weird that during difficult times our brain freezes. We forget how to have joy, or happiness. We forget where we are suppose to be heading. Most importantly we forget what we are living for. Just because things haven't gone as planned (#blueraspberry), we freeze up and start filling our heart and mind with negative things. We can't live that way.
We have run the race put out before us with our view Christ in front of us. There are too many hurting people who need to hear about God's unfailing love. There are too many negative images polluting the mind of my generation. We have to fight no matter how hard it gets sometimes.
