2min @wef clip - A UK student created a #bioplastic from fish that breaks down in 6 weeks
text from youtube "This new bioplastic was created by UK student Lucy Hughes and is made from fishing waste, such as fish scales and algae. It’s called MarinaTex and this year it won the International James Dyson Award 2019. MarinaTex doesn’t leach toxins into the environment, it’s stronger than a standard plastic bag, can be used in a variety of packaging and can even be eaten. The waste from one Atlantic Cod can produce 1,400 bags. 23-year-old Lucy was studying product design at the University of Sussex when she started the project as a way to tackle waste in the fishing industry, which produces 50 million tonnes of fishy by-products every year. Lucy hopes MarinaTex could replace much of the world’s single-use plastic. " via Blogger http://bit.ly/3cEN3q5
3min @wef clip - New Zealand is focusing on the well-being of its people, not just economic growth
text from youtube "In 2019 New Zealand focused public spending on improving citizens quality of life and devoting record funds to tackling poor mental health and domestic violence. As well as reducing child poverty and inequality. According to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, just reporting on economic growth doesn’t show the full picture. Like many countries, New Zealand uses GDP to measure the health of its economy, but it’s a limited measure of social progress. While GDP measures many things of economic value, it excludes many more. GDP is still a key measure of New Zealand’s economic success, it’s just not the only one." via Blogger http://bit.ly/2ufikxK
