FFXV. I was late to the party on this one and when I finally did play it, the plot and lore felt pretty bare bones, but damn if the fic writers didn’t bring their A game. Fleshing Ardyn specifically got me on board.

FFVII but its set in the last days of the Cetra age. Shinra still has Mako reactors and exhumed Jenova’s corpse and made SOLDIERs with it, to the unending horror of the last remaining Cetra tribes/nations who they are in open war with for the fate of the planet. Bonkers magic and steampunk stuff all over the place. Aerith’s a POW. Jenova is a lot more active and contagious because she hasn’t been pickling in Mako for so long. Sephiroth and the other SOLDIERS are eldritch shapeshifters from day 1.
