I watched Videodrome last night. What a ride. I can't believe it's from 1983. It's about influencers. It's about consumption culture. It's about social media addiction. But it's actually only about TV. It feels like it was supposed to be a warning that was totally disregarded, which gives it a uniquely scary vibe for modern times that i doubt it had when it came out. All of the details that i assume were absurd and satirical to audiences in the 80s are more or less just how things are now which left me with a really, really weird feeling. Highly recommended.
what if?
Wille opens the window all the way to the end and takes a long, deep breath. He ran away like a complete idiot only because Simon held his hand. He tries to control his breathing, sitting on the windowsill when he hears the footsteps coming towards him. And just his luck, it is Simon. Of course it is him.
Wille can tell that Simon is nervous with his hunched shoulders, fisted hands, and averted eyes making his way towards him but he is taking very slow, small steps, as if he is not even sure he should follow Wille when he is the one Wille escaped from earlier. At least that is what Simon would be thinking if he were him. Simon is not making eye contact, not even looking at his face, and Wille thinks he fucked up really badly, but why would Simon be here if he did?
Simon, sweet and caring Simon, asks him if he is okay, and Wille knows he is replying, but he is sure he is not making any sense, talking about getting fresh air and cramped toes. What the hell was that?
“I should–” Simon points behind his back, ready to leave, and it is the last thing Wille wants. “The movie is so good, I can’t miss that,” Simon teases, rolling his eyes, and Wille laughs too. He really likes it when Simon is playful and sarcastic. “I better get back now,” he says, but he still doesn’t make a move. Maybe Simon is stalling, and he also doesn’t want to leave yet. Wille should say something to make him stay, but he can’t think of anything. Just when Simon turns to leave, he leans forward to catch a handful of his shirt and pulls him to himself as a very desperate attempt, and Simon simply complies. Wille didn’t think this through, and now Simon is right in front of his face, only a breath apart. He can hear nothing but their quickened breathing at the moment, and he makes up his mind, looking at Simon’s lips first and then he leans in.
And Simon kisses him back.
man i forgot how food wars: shokugeki no soma is like such a great anime- its got the perfect humour, the underdogs, the rooting for the mc but not too much that makes u get emotionally attached (looking at demon slayer and jjk) so you're fine even if they lose, and ofc: the fantasised women body drawn by a man who if u knew IRL would make u go "bear >>>> man" but its all balanced out by the comedy.
