ok so

they have three main ones they kinda cycle through and use for specific purposes n make some effort to maintain a “persona” for, and these are Alex, Casey and Shay, these are the important ones, these are the ongoing ones

n everything else is just sorta throwaway first names they come up with on the spot if the situation calls for one n over the course of the story THIS category includes Jordan, Leslie, Taylor and Ren

a subcategory of throwaway first names is “names they unabashedly stole from their friends and family” so like. chances are if Kai is vaguely fond of you then your name will be used at some point or another, apparently as a sign of affection. over the course of the story this includes obvious targets Tris, Noa and Shara, as well as Kai’s younger brother Kieran

and that is................ all I can think of for now??

#so in terms of ''stealing names from friends and family'' this is sometimes like #a nice thing #like the name kieran is used a couple of times and you don't find out until later that it's like #oh so this is a person kai misses dearly and hasn't spoken to #in a very long time because of All Of The Everything #then other times it's just like. idk man. friends r important to kai so when they're asked to think of a name on the spot #their friends are always in reaching distance #n then other times it's just like #for comedic purposes and shenanigans #generally in low stakes scenarios #such as introducing themself as tris while tris is right next to them and then introducing #tris as shara and shara as noa and both of them being like #for fucks sake now we have to keep track of this #or one of their friends introducing themself to someone and then kai immediately introducing themself with the same name #tracle0 #atdao
