Hey mun, you've been here since the very start of my fandom experience and honestly seeing your love for the fandom still after all these years always makes me so happy. I'm really glad that I know you and you're an inspiration.

Defeating Anxiety
I just replied to a post about living life without anxiety as follows: 'Having found a mental block for these things, I can honestly tell you with empathy that its like being freed from prison (which i can only sympathize with ironically.. ) I have experienced crippling social anxiety for most of my life. When I found a way to conform more easily to social situations, aka the mental blockade, I felt like I was released from being under a sumo wrestler all my life.' He's still there trying to hold me back but now I can erect a temporary wall between him and myself. This is what I do, personally, to create this mental blockade: - Picture my favorite person/people having fun without me to give me negative motivation (which acts like desperation) - Imagine myself the way I want to be or act - Use that image as my own personal caretaker or cheerleader Basically I picture myself as carefree, and I internally say comforting things to myself. "Stop." Works the best for me. When I say this to myself, it reminds me how to shut off those crushing thoughts of anxiety. "It's ok! You're ok. :) " Comes next. I convince myself that I'm delusional and that nothing is wrong. Besides my anxiety, I'm not wrong, normally, but this works for me even in situations of high tension (aka riding on the back of a forerunner, or doing other questionably fun or dangerous stuff). I may be naive, delusional or both, though, so I'm sorry if it isn't enough in those situations. "Don't worry! Relax." Usually repeating this helps me hone in on what I WANT to feel vs how I do feel. I put so much focus into it that eventually I stop thinking about anything at all except relaxing, and it works. Realizing when these crippling thoughts are about to overtake you is the key. Another key is your motivation to calm down. If desperation isn't your style, try something different. Personally I gravitate towards positive feelings so I recoil violently from negative feelings, so it makes me desperate to avoid them. I also know exactly when I'm about to have a panic attack. I can trace the chemical reaction in my body with triggers like heart palpitations, a headache, fidgeting, overheating, etc. Know your body! It is not a prison, its a temple! YOU CAN CONTROL IT! You just have to have faith that you can and anything afterwards is step two.
