hi there! do you know if there’s anyway to put a stat counter on your tumblr mobile page too? i put it in the description but when the blog opens in mobile view it shows up as gibberish (alternatively is there a way to stop the blog from opening in mobile view)?

hi! the tumblr description doesn't allow for scripts to work unfortunately. you can stop a blog from opening in mobile view if you go to advanced options > use default mobile theme, however, this only works on web browsers and not the app. keep in mind that it'll show desktop version of your blog theme and not all themes are mobile responsive. there is no way for your blog to look any different on the app.

this is not a coding question per se and i'm not sure who to ask this bc i couldn't find the answer anywhere, but is there a reason why some things (like notes, dates, the pinned post label, etc) change if you're using another language that isn't english? does that change depending on your own language? i just found out about this when i opened my blog to change my theme and it kinda clashes with everything else in it, is there a way to change those so they stay in english?

tumblr does change some things according to what language you have your blog in yeah. they do have this localisation page but I'm not 100% sure how it works nor have I tried to use it.

search for, or add .tmblr-iframe, .iframe-controls–desktop { to your code and then underneath, style it like you would any other element

Hi! I'm a new user on Tumblr and just started figuring out how to use themes and coding!

I found out that when I'm on mobile and I click on the link of my blog (for example: randomuserblog.tumblr.com), it automatically directs me to the app of my profile.

And when I copied the link of my blog and post it on browser, it shows up just like how it looks like on the Tumblr app. However, when I change it to "desktop view", it appeared just as the theme I had chosen instead of the default Tumblr theme.

Is this normal, even though I have changed the theme?

hi! what you have described is totally normal. when you change it to desktop view, it should be showing your desktop theme. regardless of whether you've changed the theme or not, they all look like the default in the tumblr app. it will also look like that on the mobile web browser unless you have the 'use default mobile theme' option turned off in the advanced settings of your blog. however, I'd only turn that off if your desktop theme is mobile responsive otherwise it will look weird.

Im using network iii page to showcase my favorite ships and I had some icons that were made for this page. I was reading about the theme assets where you can upload images to a theme but I noticed it doesn’t work for pages. Is there a way for me to upload my icons w/o having to post them anywhere else?

hi! you can still use theme assets - you just need to upload the images where you edit your actual blog theme. go to edit html > the cog in the top left corner > theme assets and upload the images. then, copy the generated image url and use that in pages

hey i dont know if youre the right person to ask sorry, but how do you show mobile users your desktop links? like your about and byf

hey and any coding related question is welcome! you need to do this in the description on desktop when you open edit html but the code needed is this

<a href="http://[url].tumblr.com/page">name</a>

just be aware that on mobile, links to another page will open in the web browser and will probably not be the best to look at due to the formatting of most pages. links to a post or tag will open directly in the app.

slightly random question, but hoping you can help! sometimes a photoset reblog shows the username on top of the post and actual content is shown below as an 'indentation.' other times, photoset reblogs show up normally with the username and caption after the photos without the weird indentation. do you know why there is a difference and how to possibly keep it consistently to the latter? this goes for both posts i reblog and reblogs of my own posts on other people's themes. thanks in advance!

hi! the posts you see with the username on top are in the npf or new post format - which is the default format when posting from mobile and the new beta editor - and the ones with the username below is the old format when posting from desktop without the beta reader. tumblr has been switching to npf format for a while now and the big dashboard update last year streamlined the appearance of both formats on the dash itself to the new post look. however that doesn't affect desktop themes, nor has tumblr updated the coding blocks that we use.

the new post format posts everything as a text post and the majority of themes are not equipped to display them properly, resulting in weird gaps and going outside the post boundaries. if you want photos and photosets to look like the old version, glenthemes has a great script here but it is not foolproof and works better on some themes than others. it fixes normal photo and photosets, which means it can stuff up if reaction pics have been added to posts.

it'll only be a matter of time before tumblr changes it all to the new post type by fully implementing the beta editor as the default.
