Aboriginal Cultural Festival - FREE ADMISSION! Victoria, BC will once again host the Aboriginal Cultural Festival, a three day celebration of Aboriginal peoples, arts, and culture. The festivities begin on June 19 and wrap up on National Aboriginal Day, June 21. The festival is hosted on the traditional territory of Esquimalt and Songhees Nations in Victoria.
Created in partnership between Aboriginal Tourism BC, the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations, the Royal BC Museum, Tourism Victoria, the Robert Bateman Centre, and the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority, the goal for the festival is to honour and showcase the rich Aboriginal culture and history throughout Victoria and British Columbia.
The Royal BC Museum will host the outdoor event, which will feature a main stage for more than 30 scheduled performances, including those by three-time hoop dance world champion Alex Wells, an artisan craft fair showcasing arts and crafts certified by the new 2014 Authentic Indigenous Artisans Program, and an outdoor dining area where visitors can purchase food for sale including West Coast clam chowder, fry-bread, and Indian tacos.
Last year, more than 15,000 people visited the Aboriginal Cultural Festival. Previously, the last festival at the Royal BC Museum that celebrated Aboriginal culture was held more than eight years ago. The festival is an excellent experience for locals and visitors to enjoy.
