Seems universities really don’t like when you conduct research on abortion if it’s not going to swing in favor of the pro-abortion stance.

For over 10 years, Dr. Foster and her team of researchers tracked the experiences of women who'd received abortions or who had been denied them because of clinic policies on gestational age limits.

The research team regularly interviewed each of nearly 1,000 women for five years and found those who'd been denied abortion experienced worse economic and mental health outcomes than the cohort that received care. And 95% of study participants who received an abortion said they made the right decision.

Is Abortion 14 Times Safer Than Childbirth?

The RG study uses abortion numbers from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), yet these stats exclude Maryland, California, New Hampshire, Washington DC, and New York City. Those places haven’t reported their abortion stats to the CDC in years. Meanwhile, all cities and states are required to report all childbirths and any related deaths.

How can states like Maryland, New Hampshire, and California (California, which due to its size and politics, may have the most abortions of any state!) avoid reporting abortions and abortion-related deaths? It’s because all abortion reporting is voluntary. Cities and states aren’t required to report abortions, or abortion-related deaths, to any federal authorities. The two data sets RG compares differ dramatically; one covers everything meticulously, and the other is filled only at the whim of individual organizations. There is no meaningful or valid comparison of the two that can be made.

Beyond this glaring issue, there are smaller problems affecting the comparative scope of the data sets. Since abortion-related deaths do not have to be reported as such (or at all), that means they can be attributed to other causes with no mention of the abortion. When a woman dies from hemorrhaging after an abortion-pill, for example, that abortion might be reported as a miscarriage and the mother’s death chalked up to childbirth-complications. In that way, misreporting can reverse the data, faulting childbirth when an abortion was to blame.

My one annoyance with this article is that they compare homebirth with DIY abortions. :| Uuuuuh no. Freebirth maybe but not homebirth. I will be contacting them about that hiccup.

Abortion-seeking women want the option to view their ultrasounds

Women want abortion providers to offer an option to view the ultrasound. Pro-abortion groups oppose measures requiring providers to do so.

Research finds that women seeking abortion believe providers should offer them the option to view the ultrasound. But providers don’t always do so, and abortion advocacy groups (Planned Parenthood Action, NARAL, ACOG) oppose measures requiring providers to do so.

Please note I’m not referring to legislation saying women must view ultrasounds. I’m referring to legislation requiring medical personnel offer women the option to view their ultrasounds — an opportunity they can accept or decline.

Is later abortion only 1% of all abortions?

The 1% later abortion stat doesn't account for many of the states that allow abortions past 21 weeks. So how many later abortions are actual

It’s safe to expect that in states which don’t report abortion data to the CDC, the proportion of abortions after 21 weeks is higher than 1% (though unclear by how much). It’s therefore safe to expect that if the CDC had the data on these locations, the national statistic on abortions after 21 weeks would be higher.

Some pro-choicers, like RHAvote, accept this and are happy to defend even post-viability abortion as an exercise of bodily autonomy. But others may find reason to pause and consider the implications.

"Check your sources!" How abortion "Think Tanks" falsify illegal abortion deaths

Guttmacher's 2008 paper on illegal abortion mortality in Nigeria is based on a 1970s abortion mortality report from Chile. What gives?

In 2008, Guttmacher stated that as many as 40% of maternal deaths in Nigeria may be from unsafe abortion. Their source was a 2008 paper by Henshaw et al claiming the same.

Only one of Henshaw’s three sources actually supports this claim: Oye-Adeniran’s 2002 paper. Ove-Adeniran’s sources go back to a 1999 paper by Okonofua et al. which says that abortion may be responsible for 40% of deaths in Nigeria. But Okonofua’s only citation which supports this claim is Ladipo et al. 1989. Ladipo does indeed say that abortion causes 30-40% of maternal deaths. The problem is that the paper Ladipo cites is Liskin 1980 and is talking about not Nigeria but Latin America. The Liskin paper itself is too old to find online, but is using data from the 1970s at latest.

Most remarkable about this is that 40% of maternal deaths in Chile around that time were indeed due to abortion. The problem is that abortion was legal in Chile-and once it was prohibited in 1989 abortion deaths fell dramatically: by 94.2% in 11 years.
