So in the front of treasure reef area there is this flock of birds that have seagull noises. What if they actually looked like sea gulls??? So made a bunch of fun doodles (plus a lil comic) relating to that.

Hi!! Abyss crew love time. I just spotted something GREAT, and now own a new hc. Anyways.
Look! At! This!!!! They all have a Gem (yeah I know it's probably darkstone but still. I'm calling them gems)!!! Of course, this can be interpreted in a few ways, but as the person I am I can only see it in one way: acknowledgement that you're part of the crew- part of the family. They deserve that!!!
Anyways. Since Boatswain has the most gems, I think that they're the ones who make them. That headcannon kinda fell down to "they are longtime friends with Commodore, who trusts their judgement with distribution of the gems and safekeeping of loot" because why not!! And! They could also be the first mate of the crew! Among other things!!!
And of fucking course this means I'm finding a nice spot for my own skykid to wear a gem lmao. (I say, as I modify how her wristband looks like)
I got this idea for this character after being trapped into friendship with @plutonium-sky anyway their my addition to the abyss crew.
Her name is Hali she is essentially a street rat, she got into the habit of stealing to survive and one day she made the mistake of stealing from a pair of soldiers. She was caught and they cut her wings from her body as a punishment.
Here’s a few other things:
-She’s very quiet and distrustful of others around her. She often comes off as cold and mean but in reality she just doesn’t have anything to say to you.
-She’s forced to become resourceful after the lose of her wings.
-After the Abyss Crew took her in and she quickly made a habit of hiding food for later not knowing what her circumstances would be.
-She developed a sibling like relationship with the Cackling Cannoneer, often falling victim to his schemes.
-After a while she finally made peace with her new family, finding her role among them.
I really and am planning to write a few chapters just of this story idea, here’s some doodles of them.
Headcannons list for Cackling Cannoneer (and also the Abyss crew in general cause I got overboard) specifically so far because I just thought of a really stupid but funny one

I like to call him Thane (or Thaen)
Scottish, has an accent that gets worse the more emotional/distressed he is
nicknames everyone he likes (e.g. Abyss guide (Abby) as "Little Kitten" or Anxious Angler (Fern) as "Songbird")
Has about 5 different guns but only keeps 2 of them on hand at all times (2 different harpoon guns, one that we see in the memory that's basically a sniper and one for fishing (aka has a rope attached to harpoon), 2 flintlock pistols as backup, and another flintlock as a backup to the backups)
Has a knife on him at all times, even while asleep (so do the rest of the crew. Yes even Abby)
Ever since he nearly drowned and got eaten by the beast, he has a slight (lie) fear of deep water
Abby saved him from the beast before because she conveniently had a lighter on her when she found his boat and dived down to fetch him, freeing the manta with it
Has very small acid scars on his legs from lying down in beast stomach acid for a bit
Is the reason why a tower in Treasure Reef is missing a lot of it's structure (had too much fun with the ship cannons)
Assigned as the weapons man for the ship, looking out for threats. Otherwise he's on land watch because that doubles as looking for threats (aka spends his time in the nest of the ship)
Has never met his biological father, instead considers the Ceasing Commodore (or Alemez, as I call him) to be his dad. His mom is alive and he visits her whenever the crew comes back from an expedition
The ship IS a pirate ship, but they're licensed. They scavenge for resources, and find stuff that can be reused. They are also sometimes hired by merchants to protect them from Actual pirates
May seem self absorbed and uncaring, but that's because you haven't got him to open up yet
You don't want to hurt a crew member while he's around. You're gonna have a bad time running away or defending yourself from a very rageful Thane
Tends to play up his stories for the sake of other's entertainment
Strong Sibling Vibes with most of the crew (he would absolutely "increase gravity" on Abby)
Doesn't get seasick easily, but it does happen from time to time
Fucking hates snow. And ice. What is this slippery cold floor why is it a thing (as an extension he avoids Valley at all costs)
Don't let him go to somewhere cold, he's gonna get a fever Immediately

WYRM is inspired by official sky concept art of the abyss Monster (thousand eyes) where it looks more like a worm rather than moray eel and that one cave painting in treasure reef.
Might do a more detailed redraw version of the wyrm sketch at some point but idk yet

Gonna start of with the name list again- Cackling Cannoneer = Thane, Anxious Angler = Fern, Abyss Guide = Abby, Ceasing Commodore = Alemez, and Bumbling Boatswain = Ismael
The whole crew has a slew of different accents- Thane is scottish (as said before), Fern is English, Abby is Iris (she got it from her mom!), Alemez is Welsh, and Boatswain... Doesn't exactly have one, since they are selectively mute :)
I like to believe that Alemez is, in fact, Abby's dad based on the concept notes!
Abby, as the Guide of Abyss, has more of a leeway than most guides since she ALSO has to look after the Beast for it to not escape.
By leeway, i mean that she's more grumpy now than she was alive because she has a constant flow of telepathically transmitted information of what's approximately happening in Treasure Reef
That does make it easier for her to relax a little though, because she doesn't actually have to be on the lookout. Still means that she has a constant tiny headache. Poor child :(
She doesn't ever tell anyone this.
Alemez and Ismael are longtime friends that trust each other's back. While Alemez is the captain, Ismael is first mate
Everyone has at some point used one of Thane's guns. He always fusses over their safety with them whenever he finds out but prefers to not admit it
Alemez has emotionally adopted everyone in the crew. No he doesn't care that you're not blood related you're part of the crew and thus the family
(kudos to @doppelneer for this one!) the whole crew has at least one gem on their body, which signifies them as part of the crew. but! That's not their only function. Since the gems are actually darkstones, they're used as emergency batteries if needed!
If they would ever accept another crewmate, you'll know you're like actually part of the crew if they give you a gem. Use this for your sky ocs, because i did ;)
Ismael "makes" the gems! Just whittles them down then checks out where would be the best place to have it on the respective person to figure out what frame would be best for it
Fern is so anxious because they had bad childhood "friends" probably, who gave them lots of frights with crabs and whatanot for laughs. If they ever told anyone their story Thane would track them down and stare them down with absolute simmering rage
Fern is the medic of the ship! Though, they have no idea how to treat fatal wounds, like a krill attack. Just delay them.
They named their ship "Skirl", which means scream/call/screech, for their call for the sea (and also because Alemez and Ismael, the two who started the crew, cannot sing at all)
They tend to avoid krills, though if there's only one then they can gang up on it well enough
All leftover fish gets dried! They all have a dried fish pouch for snacks and if they go exploring for longer than intended.
Everyone on the crew knows how to sew, as a necessity. And repair the ship. Of course, some are way better than others. They just know them for emergencies.
Fern is the best at sewing. They made the snack (dried fish) pouches for everyone.
And that's it for now! A kinda badly organized list of headcannons that I could get off the top of my head that doesn't relate to any au I have with them for the least amount of confusion. Have fun!
